🔀 Word Scramble

Unscramble the jumbled letters before you run out of ideas.

A free word scramble game with six themed categories

Word Scramble takes a hidden word, jumbles up its letters, and challenges you to put them back in the right order. Click the scrambled letter tiles in the order you think they belong, or type the word directly on your keyboard, and use the Check button when you're ready. Get it wrong and nothing is lost, just rearrange the letters and try again, since there's no penalty for a wrong guess in this game.

Six categories give the word lists real variety: Animals, Food & Drink, Nature & Weather, Sports & Games, School & Home, and Space & Ocean, plus a Mixed option that pulls from all of them at once. Every word is scored by length, so longer words are worth more points. Stuck on one? The Hint button reveals one correct letter in its right spot for a small deduction from that word's value, and Shuffle remixes the same letters into a new scramble if the current one is hard to read.

There's no daily puzzle here, just unlimited practice: keep solving words back to back to build a streak, and your longest streak is saved locally in your own browser so you can try to beat it next time. It's free, works with a mouse, touchscreen, or keyboard, and needs no download or account. See the Parents & Safety page for the full privacy details, or try the daily WordQuest Isles game, or browse the rest of the Word Games hub.

Frequently asked questions

How do you play Word Scramble?

Click the jumbled letter tiles in order to spell the hidden word, or just type it on your keyboard. Click a letter you've already placed to put it back if you change your mind, then press Check when you're done.

What do the categories change?

Each category swaps in a different themed word list, like Animals or Space & Ocean. Mixed pulls from every category at once. Switching categories doesn't reset your score or streak.

How does the Hint button work?

Hint reveals one correct letter in its right spot for a small deduction from that word's points. You can use it as many times as you want, but each use lowers how many points that word is worth.

Is there a daily puzzle?

No, Word Scramble is unlimited practice rather than one puzzle a day: play as many words as you want in a row and try to beat your own best streak, saved locally in your browser.
