Train Games

Sixteen free train games you can play in a browser tab: drive passenger trains, metros, freight trains and steam engines in 3D, build stations and railway empires, route trains through switches, keep the level crossing safe, or ride a mine cart. No download, no account.

3D train simulator games

Rail Driver 3D is the place to start if you want to drive a real train. The Riverbend Line runs for 11 kilometres through farmland, over a river bridge and through a tunnel, with five stations along the way. You drive with one combined power and brake handle, just like a modern train, keep to the speed limits, stop at red signals and bring the train to a stand right next to the platform marker. First Run teaches the basics; after that there is a stopping service against the timetable, a non-stop express, a night run and free driving, with an intercity train and a bullet train to unlock.

Metro Driver 3D takes you underground on the Blue Line: tiled stations, tunnels, a climb up to an elevated viaduct and doors you open and close yourself. Freight Hauler is about weight: a long, heavy train on a steep line, where you load coal at the mine at a crawl and then have to keep it under control over the hills. And Steam Train Express puts you on the footplate of a steam engine, shovelling coal, watching the boiler pressure and topping up the water at the water tower.

Building and railway management games

Toy Train Builder is a wooden train set on a table: snap straights, curves and crossings together to join the stations, add bridges over the river and tunnels through the hills, then press Go and ride along. Train Station Builder makes you the station master, sending each arriving train to a free platform while passengers pour in. In Railroad Tycoon you lay track between towns, farms and mines, buy steam, diesel and electric locomotives and grow a railway company, and Train Miner is an idle game about digging ever deeper and filling wagons with ore.

Train puzzle games

Railway Switch Master is a fast-thinking puzzle: coloured trains roll out of a tunnel and you flip the switches to send each one to the station of its own colour. Railroad Tiles is a calmer tile-turning puzzle with 30 levels: rotate the track pieces to join the rails, then send the train. Railway Bridge is a physics bridge builder where beams glow as they take the strain, and Level Crossing Keeper is a timing game in which you lower and raise the barriers at busy crossings so trains pass safely and the traffic keeps moving.

Arcade train games and games for little ones

For quick fun, Rail Rush is a 3D mine cart runner through a desert canyon and dark caves, and Train Roof Obby is an obstacle course on top of a moving train, with checkpoints, jump pads, slime wagons, low bridges and a second train to jump across to. Hungry Train is a friendly snake game in which the train grows longer with every piece of fruit, and Dino Train is a gentle matching game for preschoolers: load the right dinosaurs and eggs onto the train at each station. There is no way to fail.

Why kids love train games

Trains are one of the things children love most, and train games let them do what they can only watch in real life: sit in the driver's seat, pull the whistle, run the signal box or build the whole railway themselves. Along the way they practise planning ahead, judging speed and distance, reading signals, managing money and solving spatial puzzles. The simulator games reward patience and smooth control; the puzzles reward careful thinking; the arcade games are just fast fun.

Every game works with a keyboard or a touchscreen and saves progress only in your own browser. Love vehicles? Try the Flight Simulator Games and Car & Driving Games, or see the Parents & Safety page for privacy details.
