How to play

  • Choose a bus colour and a tour, then press Start the Tour.
  • Follow the blue arrows and the GPS panel to the next landmark.
  • Slow down as you get close and look for the yellow 📸 photo box on the road.
  • Stop with the bus inside the box. It turns green when you are lined up well.
  • Press Space, F or the 📸 button. The tourists take their photos while the guide tells a fun fact.
  • Drive gently between stops: hard braking and fast corners upset the people on the open top deck.
  • Visit every landmark on the tour before the timetable runs out for the best review.

A sightseeing bus game you can play in your browser

Double Decker Tour 3D puts you behind the wheel of a classic open-top sightseeing bus in Harbour City, a bright seaside town full of famous sights. The top deck is packed with tourists holding their cameras, and your job is to show them the best of the city. Drive from landmark to landmark, stop in exactly the right place for the perfect photo, and keep the ride so smooth that nobody's hat blows off. At the end of the tour the passengers leave a review, and a careful, gentle driver earns five stars.

The game runs straight in your web browser on a computer, a Chromebook, a tablet or a phone. There is nothing to download, no account to make and nothing to buy.

Seven landmarks to visit

Harbour City has seven landmarks, each standing in its own plaza. The Big Clock Tower rises above the rooftops with a green spire and a clock face you can read from the road. The Harbour Eye is a giant wheel with colourful pods that slowly turns all day. The Old Castle has thick stone walls, four round towers with pointed blue roofs and a big wooden gate. The Liberty Lady statue holds a shining golden torch high above her head. The Dancing Fountain shoots jets of water up and down in a rhythm, the Star Observatory has a white dome and a telescope pointing at the sky, and the Dino Museum has a row of tall columns and a dinosaur skeleton peeking over the roof.

At every landmark the tour guide shares a fun fact, like how heavy the clock tower's bell is or how long one turn of the giant wheel takes. Kids playing the game pick up a little bit of trivia along the way, without it ever feeling like a lesson.

Three tours and a free drive

City Highlights is the short tour: four landmarks on a sunny afternoon, perfect for learning how the photo stops work. The Grand Tour visits all seven landmarks in one long trip around the city, with more traffic and more junctions to get through. Night Lights takes five landmarks after dark: the headlights come on, the street lamps glow, the windows light up and every landmark is floodlit, with the fountain glowing purple. Free Drive has no timetable and no score. Cruise around Harbour City at your own pace and stop at any landmark you like for a photo.

On a tour, the landmarks come in a sensible order, always heading to the nearest one next, and the GPS panel and the blue arrows on the road show you the way. The minimap in the corner shows every landmark as a dot, and the next one glows yellow.

How a photo stop works

As you get close to a landmark, a yellow box with a camera symbol appears on the road beside it, with a soft glowing beam so you can spot it from a distance. Slow down and stop with the bus inside the box. When you are lined up well, the box turns green. Press Space, F or the 📸 button and the photo stop begins: cameras pop up on the top deck, the tourists turn to face the landmark, and camera flashes go off while the guide's fun fact appears at the top of the screen.

The better you park, the better the photos. Stop right in the middle of the box, pointing straight along the road, for a three-star perfect shot. Stop at the edge of the box or at an angle and the photo is only a nice one, or a wonky one. Every photo goes into your tour album, which you see on the results card at the end.

Your tourist review

Each tour ends with a tourist review out of 100. Points come off for wonky photos, for running a red light, for bumping into cars or posts, for speeding above 25 mph, for running behind the timetable and, most of all, for a bumpy ride. Because the top deck is open, the passengers feel every hard brake, every quick getaway and every corner taken too fast. The comfort meter next to the speedometer shows how they feel: a smiling face when all is well, a worried face when it gets rough. A review of 70 or more earns two stars, and 88 or more earns three.

Stars unlock two more buses. The Hop-On Green bus unlocks at 4 stars, and the quiet electric Harbour Blue bus, which pulls away smoothly with no gear changes, unlocks at 8 stars. There are 9 stars to collect across the three tours.

Four camera views

Press C or the camera button to switch views. The chase camera follows close behind the bus, the far camera pulls back for a wide view of the streets, and the cab view puts you in the driver's seat. The best view of all is the top deck: sit among the tourists and see the city from up high, just like a real sightseeing passenger. It is great fun at night, when the landmarks are lit up.

Tips for five-star tours

Brake early and gently as you come up to the photo box, then creep forward the last few metres. It is much easier to stop in the right place at walking speed. Take corners slowly; a double decker is long and tall, and a fast turn throws the passengers sideways. Watch the traffic lights at every junction, because a red light costs 10 points. Keep under the 25 mph limit, as the tourists want to see the sights, not race past them. If you end up on the pavement or stuck against a wall, press R to put the bus back on the road.

Controls

On a computer, W or the up arrow accelerates and S or the down arrow brakes; hold the brake when you are stopped to reverse. A and D or the left and right arrows steer. Space or F starts a photo stop, C changes the camera, H sounds the horn, L switches the headlights on and off, P pauses and R puts the bus back on the road. On phones and tablets the steering arrows are on the left, the brake and accelerator are on the right, and the 📸 button sits in between. The toolbar at the top also has buttons for the camera, the photo stop, the horn, the sound and ending the tour.

Frequently asked questions

How do I take photos at a landmark?

Stop the bus inside the yellow 📸 box on the road next to the landmark, then press Space, F or the 📸 button. The box turns green when you are lined up well.

Why did my photo only get one star?

The bus was near the edge of the photo box or at an angle. Stop in the middle of the box, pointing straight along the road, for a three-star photo.

Why did the tourists give me a low review?

Reviews drop for a bumpy ride, bumps, red lights, speeding, wonky photos and running late. Brake and turn gently, because the open top deck feels everything.

How do I unlock the other buses?

Each tour gives up to 3 stars. The Hop-On Green bus unlocks at 4 stars and the electric Harbour Blue bus at 8 stars.

Can I ride on the top deck?

Yes. Press C or the camera button until it says Top deck, and you will see the city from a seat among the tourists.

Can I play on a phone or tablet?

Yes. Touch controls appear on phones and tablets: steering arrows, brake and accelerator pedals and a 📸 photo button.

Is Double Decker Tour 3D free?

Yes. It is free with no download, no account and nothing to buy.
