How to play

  • Choose a coach and a route, then press Start the Route.
  • At the coach station, press O (or 🚪) to open the doors. Passengers board and buy tickets. Close the doors and set off.
  • Drive with W/S or the arrow keys and steer with A/D. On phones use the on-screen pedals and arrows.
  • Follow the road to the next town. Pull into the yellow bus bay so the front door stops by the green stop sign, then open the doors.
  • Watch the speed limit sign in the corner: 30 mph in towns, 20 mph at the toll barrier, faster on the open road.
  • Slow down before bends and brake gently: the comfort meter drops when the ride is rough.
  • Reach the last stop and let everyone off to finish the route and get your score.

A coach bus simulator you can play in your browser

Coach Bus Simulator 3D puts you behind the wheel of a big intercity coach. Unlike a city bus, which stops every few hundred metres, a coach drives long distances between towns: out of the coach station, along winding country roads, through small towns and on to the end of the line. Your passengers have bought tickets, they expect to arrive on time, and they would very much like not to be thrown around on the way.

Everything runs in your browser with no download. The coach is long and heavy, so it needs planning: it takes a while to speed up, it needs room to stop, and it leans on fast corners. Drive it like a real coach driver and the game rewards you with a smooth ride and a high score.

How a coach route works

Every route starts at a coach station with passengers waiting at the bay. Open the doors and they walk on, one by one, and each one buys a ticket. Close the doors and pull away carefully. A blue panel at the top of the screen counts down the distance to the next stop, and the route strip in the corner shows every stop on the line with your coach moving along it.

In each town, look for the yellow bus bay on the right side of the road and the green stop sign with a tall green light above it. Pull into the bay so the coach is inside the yellow box and the front door is next to the sign. The box turns green when you are in the right place. Stop, open the doors, let passengers off and on, close the doors and drive on. If you open the doors anywhere else, or drive straight past a stop, you lose points.

Five routes and a Free Drive

Valley Express is the gentle first route: green hills, windmills and two friendly towns. Coast Line runs along sea cliffs at sunset and adds a rest stop, where your passengers get off for a short break at the café before you carry on. Desert Run is the longest route, with red rock arches, a rest stop and a toll gate: slow down to 20 mph and the barrier lifts for you, but come in too fast and it stays down. Mountain Pass climbs through pine forests with tight bends and steep hills and a lower speed limit, so smooth driving matters most here. Night Coach runs after dark with the headlights on, the street lamps glowing and lit windows in every town.

Free Drive has no timetable at all. The road goes on forever, with a new town every couple of kilometres and the odd rest stop, through one of four landscapes chosen at random. Press N to switch between day and night and just enjoy the drive.

Scoring, stars and coaches

Each route is scored out of 100. Points come off for bumping into cars, signs or the toll barrier, for missing a stop, for opening the doors away from a stop, for speeding, for driving off the road, for running late and for a rough ride. A score of 70 or more earns two stars and 88 or more earns three. Stars unlock new coaches: the fast Express Liner, the tall Double-Deck Coach and the quiet Electric Coach, which pulls away briskly with no gears at all.

The comfort meter next to the speedometer shows how your passengers feel. It drops when you brake hard, accelerate hard or take a bend too fast, and slowly recovers when you drive smoothly. Whatever is left at the end of the route counts towards your score.

Driving tips for coach drivers

Brake early and gently: a coach that stops smoothly a little before the bay can always creep forward the last few metres. Look at the road ahead, not just the road in front of the coach, and lift off the accelerator before a bend instead of braking in the middle of it. Keep left of the oncoming lane: cars coming the other way will stop and wait if your coach cuts across the centre line, but a bump still costs points. Watch the speed limit sign in the bottom corner, because it changes as you enter and leave towns. And keep an eye on the timetable in the top left: a few seconds late is fine, but if you dawdle you will lose points at the next stop.

Use the camera button (or C) to switch views. The chase camera is best for driving, the far camera helps on tight mountain bends, the cab view feels like the real thing, and the door camera makes it easy to stop in exactly the right place.

Controls

On a computer, W or the up arrow accelerates and S or the down arrow brakes; hold the brake when you are stopped to reverse. A and D or the left and right arrows steer. O opens and closes the doors, H sounds the horn, L switches the headlights, Q and E work the indicators, C changes the camera and P pauses. If the coach ever ends up stuck off the road, press R to put it back on the road. On phones and tablets the steering arrows are on the left, the brake and accelerator pedals are on the right, and the door button sits between them.

What happens if I miss a stop?

If you drive more than 40 metres past a stop without opening the doors there, you lose 15 points (10 for a rest stop) and the route carries on to the next stop.
