Math practice on skis

Ski Math Slalom turns math facts into a ski race. A question pops up at the top of the screen, like 6 + 7 or 8 ร— 4. Down the hill, three slalom gates are waiting, each with a number on its banner. Work out the answer, steer your skier through the right gate, and a shower of confetti and a cheerful ding tell you it was correct. Pick the wrong one and the game shows you the right answer, so you learn it for next time. Then the next question appears, and the next three gates are already on their way.

It is quick, active practice: children answer a question every few seconds, and the skiing keeps them coming back for more.

Seven topics

Choose the math your child is working on: Add to 10 (4 + 3, 6 + 2...), Take away to 10, Add and take to 20, the 2, 5 and 10 times tables, all the times tables, division (24 รท 6, 45 รท 9...), or Mix it up for a bit of everything. The wrong answers on the other gates are close to the real one, like one more, one less, or a common slip, so children have to think, not guess.

Three speeds for every age

Not every child thinks at the same speed, and that is fine. Gentle gives the most thinking time between gates, Cruise is a bit quicker, and Racer is for confident math whizzes. During a run, holding S slows the skier down for extra time, and W speeds up for bonus fun.

Slalom and Marathon

Slalom is ten gates down to the finish line. Get 5 right for one star, 8 for two, and all 10 for three stars. Marathon keeps going until you choose three wrong gates, and gets a little faster the more you get right: how many can you answer in a row?

Made for young learners

The answers are shown in two places: on the gate banners in the 3D world, and as big red, blue and green chips under the question, in the same order as the gates. That way, even on a small phone screen, children know which gate is which before they get close. Questions can be read aloud, which helps younger children and early readers. At the end of each run, a short list shows the facts that were missed, with the right answers, so you can practise them together.

Why it works

Math fluency comes from lots of short practice. Ski Math Slalom makes that practice feel like play: there is a goal (the right gate), quick feedback (confetti or the right answer), a little time pressure that can be adjusted, and stars to collect. Because steering takes a moment, children commit to an answer early, which builds recall. And the skiing is just fun.

Stars and outfits

Every topic has three stars to earn in Slalom mode, 21 in all. Stars unlock new skiers: the Blue Bobble with a bobble hat, the Pink Star and the Gold Champ.

Tips for parents and teachers

Start with Gentle speed and a topic your child already knows, to build confidence. Move to the next topic when they get three stars. Use the missed facts list at the end as a mini lesson. On a tablet or phone, the big โ—€ โ–ถ buttons are easy for small hands.

Play anywhere

Ski Math Slalom runs in any modern browser on computers, Chromebooks, tablets and phones, with no download and no account. Stars are saved only in your browser and there is nothing to buy. See the Parents & Safety page for more.
