A first sledding game for little kids
Sledding Hill is a free, gentle sledding game made for the youngest players. There is only one button, and there is no way to lose. The sled slides down the snowy hill all by itself; when your child holds a key, the mouse button or a finger on the screen, the sled pushes off and goes faster. Over a bump it flies into the air, and holding the button makes it flip. Let go, and the sled levels out for a soft, happy landing. At the bottom of every hill there is a little hut with hot cocoa waiting.
It is the kind of game a three or four year old can play alone, and it is still fun for older kids who want to collect every star and pull off big flips.
Eight hills to explore
Each hill has its own look and its own shape. Backyard Hill is short and gentle. Snowman Slope is full of friendly snowmen to bump through. Bumpy Meadow has lots of little jumps. Pine Forest Run winds through the trees, and Big Air Ridge has the biggest jump of all. Sunset Slide glows orange and pink, Frozen Lake crosses slippery ice, and Moonlight Mountain is a calm night ride under the stars.
Every hill has three big golden stars. Some lie on the snow, and some float in the air above the jumps, so to reach them your child learns when to push and when to let go. Presents are scattered along the way, and snowmen burst into a puff of snow when the sled bumps through them, which never stops being funny.
No way to lose
There is no timer, no lives and no game over. If the sled lands crooked, it tumbles in the snow, the rider laughs, and off they go again. That makes Sledding Hill a calm, encouraging game, perfect for building confidence with a mouse, a keyboard or a touch screen.
Free Ride
Free Ride is a long, open hill with no goals at all, just jumps, bumps and snow. It is perfect for practising flips or simply enjoying the ride.
New sledders
Stars are saved, and as they add up, new sledders join the fun: a Penguin, a fluffy Polar Bear and a happy Puppy. Each one rides the same sled, but kids love choosing their favourite.
What kids learn
Sledding Hill is a playful way to practise cause and effect, timing and fine motor control. Holding the button means faster; letting go means a soft landing. Children learn to watch the hill ahead and decide when to push for a star in the air. It is also a nice first step towards using a mouse, a keyboard or a touch screen with purpose.
Tips for grown-ups
For the very youngest players, a touch screen or a single big key like the Space bar works best. Show them that holding makes the sled go and letting go makes it land. Older kids can hunt for all three stars on every hill: the air stars sit right where a sled lands if you keep pushing on the way up a jump.
