🧸 Toy Tanks Tabletop
A wind-up toy tank on the tabletop: fire foam darts at clockwork robots, topple block towers and wind your spring before it runs down.
How to play
- Pick a table and a level, then wind it up. The icon shows the goal: 🤖 stop the toys, 🧱 topple the towers, ⭐ collect stickers and get home.
- W, A, S and D drive the tank. Aim the turret with the mouse and click (or press Space) to fire foam darts.
- Driving unwinds the spring. When it runs low, stand still and hold R (or 🔑 WIND) to wind it up.
- Golden keys 🔑 on the table wind the spring all the way up.
- Robots need two darts, RC cars one, ball launchers three. Block towers need two.
- Phones: the left stick drives, the right stick aims and fires.
A tank game on the table
Toy Tanks Tabletop shrinks the tank battle down to toy size. Your tank is a little blue wind-up toy with a big key on its back, and the battlefield is a tabletop: a kid's desk covered in books, rulers and pencil cases, a kitchen table set with plates and cups, and a workbench full of cans and toolboxes. You see it all from above, like looking down at the table, and you drive round the clutter firing soft foam darts. It's a gentle, colourful game that works in any web browser, with no download.
Nobody gets hurt on this table. The other toys simply wind down, spin out or jam when your darts hit them, and the worst that can happen to your tank is a bump that costs a heart.
Wind it up!
Your tank runs on a spring, just like a real wind-up toy. Every second of driving unwinds it a little, and the key-shaped gauge at the top shows how much is left. When the spring runs down the tank can only crawl. Stand still and hold R, or the 🔑 WIND button on a touch screen, and the key on the back spins round and winds it up again. Winding takes a few seconds and you can't shoot while you do it, so pick a safe moment: behind a book, away from the robots. Golden keys lying on the table wind the spring all the way up in one go.
The other toys
Clockwork robots plod towards you on their little feet with keys turning on their heads. They're slow but stubborn, and they need two darts to stop. RC cars sit still for a moment, then zoom off in a straight line, straight at you if they can see you; one dart spins them out, if you can hit them. Ball launchers stand in one place, turn to face you and lob rubber balls; they take three darts. Toys can't see you through books, plates and toolboxes, so use the clutter as cover.
Three kinds of level
Every level has a goal, shown by its icon. In a 🤖 toy level you must stop every wind-up toy on the table. In a 🧱 tower level the table has towers of red, blue and yellow building blocks: two darts send each one toppling over, while a few toys try to stop you. In a ⭐ sticker level, stickers are scattered across the table; collect every one, then drive back to the red toy box on the left edge where you started.
24 levels on three tables
The Kid's Desk has eight levels with books, rulers and erasers, and mostly robots. The Kitchen Table opens at 10 stars, with a check tablecloth, plates, bowls and jars, more RC cars and launchers, and faster toys. The Workbench opens at 26 stars, with cans and toolboxes and the quickest toys of all. Each level gives up to three stars: one for winning, one for beating the par time and one for not losing a single heart. There are 72 stars to win.
Why a wind-up tank?
Clockwork toys have been around for hundreds of years. Turning the key winds a coiled metal spring inside the toy, and as the spring slowly unwinds it turns the gears that make the toy walk, roll or spin. Wind-up tanks, cars and robots were favourite toys for generations of children, long before batteries. The spring gives the game its rhythm: you can't just drive around forever, you have to plan where to stop and wind up, which turns every level into a little puzzle about timing and safe spots.
It also changes how you fight. A tank with a full spring can zip round the table and line up shots from the side, but a tank that's running low has to find cover first. The golden keys scattered on some tables are worth a detour, because they wind you all the way up in an instant.
A tabletop game for younger players
Table tanks is a great first tank game for younger children. The view from above makes it easy to see everything at once, the toys move slowly enough to dodge, and the controls are the classic pair: one hand drives, the other aims. Each level is short, often under a minute, so it's easy to have just one more go. Older players can chase three stars on every level, which means winning fast without a single bump.
Tips
Keep moving between shots, but don't let the spring run all the way down in the open. Wind up behind cover. Shoot RC cars while they're resting, before they dash. Stay out of a ball launcher's line of sight until you're ready, then pop out and fire three darts quickly. In sticker levels, plan a loop that ends near the toy box so the drive home is short.
Controls
On a computer: W, A, S and D or the arrow keys drive the tank, the mouse aims the turret, a click or Space fires foam darts, hold R to wind up the spring and P pauses. On phones and tablets the game turns the table on its side to fit the screen; the left stick drives, the right stick aims and fires, and the 🔑 WIND button in the middle winds the spring.
