The full 24-point game, not a simplified version
Backgammon Classic plays the complete standard ruleset on a real 24-point board: 15 checkers per side in the classic starting position, dice-driven movement with doubles giving 4 moves instead of 2, hitting an opponent's lone checker (a blot) to send it to the bar, mandatory re-entry from the bar before any other move, and bearing off with the correct exact-or-overshoot rule once every checker has reached your home board.
The AI opponent weighs real strategy rather than just picking the first legal move: hitting blots when it can, covering its own exposed checkers, building points, and racing home efficiently, with the balance between those priorities shifting as you raise the difficulty. Switch to 2 Player mode for local, same-device play with a friend, since backgammon has no hidden information, both sides see the whole board at all times.
Part of the Classic Board Games collection alongside Chess Arena and Mancala Stones, sharing the same difficulty system and sound design. Free, no download, no account, and your win record saves locally in your own browser.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move a checker?
Roll the dice, click one of the die pips to arm it, then click one of your checkers (highlighted points) to move it that many pips. Doubles give you 4 moves of that value instead of 2.
What happens when I hit a checker?
Landing on a point with exactly one opposing checker (a blot) sends it to the bar. A player with a checker on the bar must re-enter it in the opponent's home board before making any other move.
How does bearing off work?
Once all 15 of your checkers are in your home board, you can start bearing them off. A die exactly matching a point's distance from the edge bears off the checker there directly. If no checker sits on that exact point and none sit further out, you may bear off your furthest-back checker instead.
Is Backgammon Classic free with no account needed?
Yes. It's completely free with no download and no account, and your win record saves only in your own browser.
