How to play
- Choose your ship, a game and a mission, then press Battle stations!
- W and S change the engine order (astern, stop, slow, half, full). A and D turn the rudder.
- Drag the view to aim: the crosshair shows where the shells will land. Click or press Space to fire.
- T launches torpedoes, Q drops depth charges on submarines, F lays a smoke screen, R repairs.
- Islands stop shells: hide behind them when you need a break.
- Win missions for stars and credits. Spend credits in the shipyard between battles.
Battle stations!
Warship Sea Battle 3D is a free naval battle game that you play in your browser. You command a grey warship with gun turrets fore and aft, torpedo tubes and depth charges, and the Crimson Fleet is heading for your waters. Patrol boats, frigates, cruisers, submarines and finally their mighty flagship stand between you and victory.
The battle is fought in real 3D on an open sea dotted with islands. Your turrets swing to follow your aim, shells arc through the sky and splash into the waves, smoke drifts across the water and red-hulled enemy ships manoeuvre to get a shot at you.
Aiming the guns
You aim by moving the camera. Drag the view (or swipe on a touchscreen) and a crosshair on the water shows exactly where your shells will land. Look further away to aim further. When the crosshair comes close to an enemy ship, it snaps onto it and turns red, leading the target a little so your shells hit a moving ship. Click or press the space bar to fire a salvo from every turret. The guns then need a few seconds to reload, shown on the weapons panel.
Torpedoes, depth charges and smoke
Torpedoes are slow but powerful: press T to launch a spread of three towards your aim point. Your tubes reload one torpedo at a time. Submarines hide underwater where shells cannot reach them; look for their bubbles, drive over them and press Q to roll depth charges off the stern. When the enemy is hitting you hard, press F to lay a smoke screen that makes them miss, and R to send the repair crews to work.
Steering a warship
A warship has an engine telegraph rather than a gas pedal. Each press of W or S moves the order one step: astern, stop, slow, half and full ahead. The ship speeds up and slows down gradually, so keep moving in a battle: a stopped ship is an easy target. Enemy torpedoes leave a trail in the water; when the warning appears, turn hard to dodge them.
Ten missions
The Campaign starts with gunnery practice against three patrol boats and builds up to a full fleet battle. You will face two frigates, fast torpedo boats, a convoy escort where you must keep a cargo ship safe until it reaches harbour (watch out for the ambush half way), a submarine hunt, the defence of Port Haven against three attack waves, a coastal battery on Rock Island, a cruiser squadron, a wolf pack of submarines and torpedo boats, and finally the Crimson Flagship itself.
Three ships and the shipyard
You start with the Destroyer: fast, nimble and armed with four torpedo tubes. The Light Cruiser unlocks at 6 stars and adds a third gun turret and a tougher hull. The Battleship unlocks at 14 stars: it is slow and has no torpedoes, but its huge guns and thick armour are made for the final battles. Each mission gives up to three stars: one for winning, one for keeping half your hull and one for winning quickly. Credits from missions and sunk ships buy upgrades in the shipyard: armour, gun crews, loaders, torpedoes and engines.
Waves and Free Sail
Waves mode sends endless waves of enemy ships, each one bigger than the last, with a flagship every sixth wave. How many can you survive? Free Sail is relaxed practice against patrol boats, with no pressure at all.
Tips
Use the islands as cover: shells cannot pass through them. Keep at medium range, where your guns hit hard but the small enemy guns cannot reach. Turn side-on to fire torpedoes past the enemy bow. Lay smoke and repair early, not at the last moment. And in the convoy mission, stay close to the cargo ship.
A kid-friendly war game
Ships are cartoon models and battles are bangs, splashes and smoke. When a ship sinks, its crew always takes to the lifeboats and rows away safely, and there is no blood. See the Parents & Safety page for more.
