A team tank battle in your browser
Tank Battle 3D puts you in the driving seat of a tank on the blue team. Four blue bot tanks roll out of the base with you, and five red bot tanks are waiting at the other end of the map. Every battle is five against five, it takes a few minutes, and you choose what kind of battle it is. You can play it straight away in your web browser, with no download and no account.
This is the kind of tank game you may know from online tank shooters, but without strangers. All nine other tanks are computer-controlled bots with their own names. Your teammates follow orders of their own: some guard the base, some attack, and all of them shoot at red tanks they can see. The red bots do the same. That means the battle is always busy, every match is different, and the side that works best as a team usually wins.
Three ways to battle
Team Battle is the simplest mode. Every red tank you knock out scores one point for the blue team, and the first team to 25 points wins. If the clock runs out after four minutes, the team in front wins. Pick your fights: a tank with low armour should back off behind cover, find a repair kit and come back.
Capture the Flag is all about teamwork. The red flag stands in the red base on the far side of the map. Drive into it to grab it, then drive it all the way back to the blue base to score. While you carry the flag, your tank is a little slower and every red tank on the map comes after you. If you are knocked out, the flag drops where you were. A red tank can carry it home again, or a blue tank can pick it up and carry on. The red team tries to steal your flag too, so somebody has to defend. First team to three captures wins. If the five minutes run out with the captures level, the team with more knockouts takes the win.
King of the Hill is a fight for the middle. A glowing ring marks the hill in the centre of the map. While blue tanks are on the hill and no red tank is, the blue team scores a point every second. When tanks from both teams are on the hill, the ring turns yellow and nobody scores until one side pushes the other off. First to 60 points wins.
Four maps
Green Valley is the first map, a grassy field with rocks, hedges, barns and stacked crates. Desert Canyon opens at 5 stars, with tall sandstone mesas and blocks under a sunset sky. Snow Base opens at 12 stars, with ice blocks you can see through, snowy bunkers and pine trees. Robot City opens at 20 stars: a night battle between tall lit-up buildings and stacks of containers.
Every map is mirrored through the middle, so the red team gets exactly the same cover as you. The middle of each map is always kept open for the hill, and the two bases at each end have room to roll out. The red bots get sharper on every new map: they aim better, react faster and hit harder, so Robot City is the real test.
Hulls and guns
Your tank is made of two parts, the hull and the gun, and you can mix any hull with any gun. You start with the Ranger hull, a good all-rounder. The Scout opens at 6 stars: fast and nimble, but its thin armour does not take much punishment. The Bulwark opens at 15 stars: slow, but with almost twice the armour of the Scout.
You start with the Cannon, a steady gun with a good punch and a long range. Rapid Fire opens at 3 stars and sprays small shells very quickly at short range. The Twin Cannon opens at 10 stars and fires from two barrels one after the other. The Railgun opens at 20 stars: it takes a long time to charge, but its beam hits instantly at very long range and does huge damage. Try a fast Scout with Rapid Fire for flag running, or a Bulwark with a Railgun for holding the hill.
How to aim and shoot
On a computer you drive the hull with W, A, S and D, and the turret on top turns separately. Point the mouse at the ground where you want to shoot and the turret swings round to face it, so you can drive one way and shoot another. A ring on screen shows where the gun is pointing. When a red tank is close to the line of fire, the ring turns red and a little aim help steers the shell onto it. The yellow bar under your armour shows when the gun has reloaded. You can also turn the turret with Q and E.
On phones and tablets the turret aims by itself at the nearest red tank in front of you, so you can concentrate on driving. Use the arrow buttons to turn, GAS and BACK to drive, and hold FIRE to shoot.
Stars, MVP and tips
Every map has three modes, and every battle can earn up to three stars: one for finishing the battle, two for winning, and three for winning as your team's MVP, the blue tank with the most points. Knockouts score 100 points, grabbing a flag 50, capturing it 300, and every second on the hill 10. There are 36 stars in all.
Some tips: stay near cover and peek out to shoot, instead of sitting in the open. Watch the minimap in the corner, which shows every tank, the flags and the hill. Grab the orange power cubes on the way to a fight, and the green repair kits when your armour gets low. In Capture the Flag, follow your flag carrier and knock out the red tanks chasing it. When you are knocked out, your tank puffs smoke and rolls out of your base again a few seconds later with a short shield.
Free, safe and made for kids
Tank Battle 3D is free to play, with no download, no sign-up and nothing to buy. There is no chat and nobody else online, only bots. The battles are cartoon tanks firing glowing shells at each other: knocked-out tanks just puff smoke and come back, and no people are ever shown getting hurt. Your stars and unlocks are saved only on your own device. See the Parents & Safety page for more.
