Typing practice with a light shooter twist
Space Typing Defender is a typing game for kids that borrows the shape of a classic space shooter: ships carrying a letter or word descend toward your base, and typing the text on any ship locks your focus onto it and blasts it once finished, exactly like the site's other falling-word typers but with lasers instead of a slice or a splash. A ship that reaches the base costs one of five shields instead of ending anything outright, so a rough patch never means starting completely over.
Three tiers change what's written on the ships. Tier 1, Single Letters, is the gentlest possible start: every ship carries just one letter, so a single correct keypress blasts it, ideal for a child still building basic keyboard confidence. Tier 2 moves to short words for real typing practice. Tier 3 uses longer words and a faster descent for a genuine challenge.
Losing all five shields simply ends the current wave with your wave number shown and starts a new one immediately, shields fully restored, so there is always another wave to try beating. Space Typing Defender is free, works with any keyboard, needs no download or account, and saves your best wave locally in your own browser, which also makes it school-safe on a shared classroom Chromebook. Frequently asked questions
How do I play Space Typing Defender?
Type the word shown on any descending ship to lock onto it, then finish typing to blast it before it reaches your base at the bottom.
What happens if a ship reaches my base?
Your base loses one shield. Lose all five shields and the wave ends with your wave count shown, then a fresh wave starts right away with shields fully restored.
What is the Single Letters tier for?
It's the easiest starting point: every ship carries just one letter, so a single keypress blasts it, good for a child still building basic keyboard confidence.
What ages is Space Typing Defender good for?
Roughly ages 6 through 12. The Single Letters tier suits a beginner, and the word tiers suit a kid ready for real typing speed under light pressure.
