How to play

  • Choose a truck and a job, then press Start the Engine.
  • W or the up arrow accelerates and S or the down arrow brakes. Hold S after stopping to reverse. Steer with A and D or the arrow keys.
  • To pick up the cargo, drive past the waiting trailer, stop, and reverse straight under its front end. When you are lined up, the truck couples up automatically.
  • Follow the blue arrows and the directions at the top to the delivery depot.
  • Reverse the trailer into the green dock bay until its back is at the dock door, then stop. Hold still and the cargo is delivered.
  • Reversing a trailer is tricky: steer the opposite way to where you want the back of the trailer to go, in small amounts. Watch the trailer gauge: if it turns red you are close to a jackknife, so pull forward to straighten up.
  • Bumps damage the cargo (fragile glass counts double). Press C to change the camera, H for the horn, L for lights and R to get back on the road. On a phone or tablet, tap the ↺ button if you get stuck.

A truck simulator with a real trailer

Big Rig Cargo puts you behind the wheel of a big American-style tractor unit with a long trailer hooked on behind. The trailer is not glued to the cab: it pivots on the fifth wheel, follows its own path round every corner and cuts in on the inside of turns, so you have to swing wide. It is the same physics that makes real trucking a skill, and it is what makes backing up to a loading dock such a satisfying challenge.

Every job follows the routine of a real delivery driver. Start at a depot, reverse the tractor under the front of a waiting trailer until the kingpin drops into the fifth wheel and the truck couples up. Pull out onto the road and follow the GPS across town, with traffic lights, other traffic and tight junctions to think about. At the delivery depot, turn in the yard and reverse the trailer into the green bay against the loading dock door. Stop, hold still, and the cargo is unloaded.

Learning to reverse a trailer

Reversing with a trailer is famous for being tricky, because the trailer turns the opposite way to the steering wheel. Steer left and the back of the trailer swings right. The trick is to make small, early corrections, stop and pull forward whenever the angle gets too big, and use the high camera to see the whole rig. A trailer gauge shows the angle between the cab and the trailer, and it turns red when you are about to jackknife.

Six jobs

First Delivery is a short trip with parcels to a nearby depot, perfect for learning. Fragile Glass counts every bump double. Heavy Steel loads a flatbed with steel beams, so the truck is slower to speed up and to stop. Night Haul is a fuel tanker delivery after dark, with the town lit up. Double Job strings two deliveries together: logs first, then parcels. Free Drive has no clock, so you can practise reversing into the docks as long as you like.

Stars come from finishing under the par time with very little cargo damage, and they unlock the Blue Streak and the chrome-and-black Chrome King, each more powerful than the last.

Why kids love truck games

Trucks are huge, loud and powerful, and driving one is a dream for lots of children. Truck simulators add patience and planning: thinking about how much room a long vehicle needs, braking early with a heavy load and working out how to back a trailer into a tight space. It is great practice for spatial reasoning and staying calm under pressure.

Big Rig Cargo is free, needs no download or account, and saves your stars only in your own browser. See the Parents & Safety page for details. Prefer a 2D truck career? Try Haul It. More driving: City Bus Simulator, Parking Pro 3D, or all our Car Games.

Is Big Rig Cargo free?

Yes. It is a free 3D truck simulator that runs in a web browser with no download, account or plugin.

How do I pick up the trailer?

Drive into the depot yard, stop in front of the waiting trailer, then reverse straight back under it. When the truck is lined up under the trailer's front end, it couples up by itself.

How do I reverse a trailer?

Steer the opposite way to where you want the back of the trailer to go, and use small movements. If the trailer gauge turns red, pull forward to straighten up before you try again.

It is when the trailer folds round at a sharp angle to the cab. The truck will not reverse any further until you pull forward and straighten out.

Is this the same as Haul It?
