Rotate, thrust, and drift with real momentum through a belt of splitting rocks that wrap around the screen.
How to play
- Rotate with the arrow keys, A/D, or the on-screen rotate buttons.
- Hold Up, W, or the Thrust button to accelerate in the direction you're facing. Your ship keeps drifting after you let go, it never stops instantly.
- Press Space, tap Fire, or tap and hold the screen to shoot and thrust together.
- Large rocks split into two medium rocks, medium rocks split into two small rocks, and small rocks shatter for the most points.
- Fly off any edge of the screen and you'll wrap around to the opposite side, and so will the rocks.

A spaceship arcade game built on real momentum physics
Asteroid Drift: Classic Belt is a spaceship arcade game built in the spirit of the genre's classic momentum shooters: instead of snapping to a grid or moving in fixed eight-way steps, your ship rotates and thrusts freely, carrying real inertia in whatever direction it's facing. Letting go of thrust doesn't stop the ship, it keeps sliding with only the barest hint of drag, so lining up a shot means planning your turn ahead of time rather than just pointing and firing. Both the ship and every rock in the belt wrap seamlessly off one edge of the screen and back in on the opposite side, horizontally and vertically, so there's no true dead end to hide in.
The core loop is the genre's classic split-and-shatter rock belt: shoot a large rock and it breaks into two medium rocks, shoot a medium rock and it breaks into two small rocks, and a small rock shatters completely for the biggest score of the three. Each smaller tier drifts faster than the last, so a cleared wave gets more chaotic and more rewarding the deeper you cut into it. Every wave that starts throws a few more large rocks into the belt than the last, so surviving and clearing waves back to back is its own escalating challenge. Real canvas rendering gives every rock a jagged, individually generated silhouette, and impacts trigger particle debris and a screen shake, with a synthesized thruster hum, laser zap, and tiered explosion booms rounding out the feel, no audio files involved.
Asteroid Drift: Classic Belt is the baseline entry in AnonArcade's momentum-shooter series. For the same drifting rock-belt loop with hunting saucers added on top, try Asteroid Drift: Deep Space Storm. For a version where comets streak across the belt and leave a damaging trail behind them, try Asteroid Drift: Comet Chaos. Looking for a different kind of classic arcade action? Frequently asked questions
How do I control Asteroid Drift: Classic Belt?
Rotate with the left and right arrow keys, A and D, or the on-screen rotate buttons. Hold the up arrow, W, or the Thrust button to accelerate forward in whichever direction your ship is facing. Press Space, tap Fire, or tap and hold the screen to shoot and thrust at the same time.
How does the ship's movement work?
The ship has real momentum. Thrusting adds speed in the direction you're facing, and releasing thrust lets the ship keep drifting instead of stopping instantly. There's only a tiny bit of drag, so plan your turns ahead of time like a real momentum shooter.
What happens when I shoot a rock?
Large rocks split into two medium rocks, and medium rocks split into two small rocks. Small rocks shatter completely when hit. Smaller rocks move faster but score more points, so the belt gets more chaotic and more rewarding as you clear it.
What happens at the edge of the screen?
Both your ship and every rock wrap around the screen. Fly off the top and you reappear at the bottom, fly off the left and you reappear on the right, and the same goes for the rocks.
Is Asteroid Drift: Classic Belt free with no account needed?
Yes. It's free with no download and no account, and your best score saves only in your own browser.
