A ski classic, reimagined

If you ever played that little ski game that came with old office computers, you remember the trees, the ramps, the dogs, and the moment a big furry yeti came bounding down the slope after you. Yeti Escape is our free, modern tribute to that kind of game. You look down on a snowy mountain from above and steer a tiny skier through a forest of pines, rocks, mogul fields, snowboarders and dogs, flying off ramps and pulling tricks as you go. It looks simple, it plays fast, and it is very hard to put down.

Unlike the old games, Yeti Escape is built for today: you can steer with the mouse, a finger or the keyboard, it runs on phones and tablets, it has three different modes, and your best runs and outfits are saved.

Steering like the original

Your skier points in one of seven directions, from sideways left to straight down to sideways right. The steeper you point, the faster you go; pointing sideways slows you down and finally stops you, which is how you brake. Point with the mouse or your finger and the skier turns to face it, or tap the left and right keys to turn one step at a time. Hold the down key to tuck for extra speed, and up to slow down.

Ramps and tricks

Ramps launch you into the air, and you can hop anywhere with Space. In the air you can spin with left and right (land facing downhill, all the way round, or you tumble), do a spread eagle with up or Space, or a daffy with down. Tricks score points, and a clean landing keeps your combo going. Big ramps give enough air for two or three tricks in one jump.

Yeti Run

Yeti Run is the endless mode. Ski as far down the mountain as you can, dodging everything. Then, somewhere past 600 metres, you hear it: heavy footsteps. The yeti has spotted you. He is fast, faster than a normal skier, so you have to tuck, point straight downhill and steer cleanly to stay ahead. Keep going long enough and he runs out of puff and lies down for a nap. Enjoy the peace while it lasts, because a few hundred metres later he is back, and a little faster each time. How far can you get?

Slalom

Three slalom courses test your steering: the Bunny Slalom, the Pine Slalom and the Yeti Slalom. Pass between the flags of every gate; a missed gate adds five seconds to your time. Beat the target times for two or three stars. And on the Yeti Slalom, you are not alone: halfway down, the yeti joins the race.

Freestyle

Freestyle gives you sixty seconds in a jump park full of ramps. Fly off as many as you can, link spins, eagles and daffies, and land them all to keep your combo multiplier climbing. Three score goals give up to three stars.

Outfits

Stars from all three modes unlock new outfits for your skier: the Classic look, Retro Pink, the checked Lumberjack and the shiny Gold Medal suit.

Tips

Do not point straight down all the time: a slight angle gives you more time to react. Keep an eye on the dogs and other skiers, because they move. When the yeti comes, stop doing tricks and just ski: tuck, avoid the trees, and take the ramps only if they are right in your path. In Slalom, set up early for each gate so you pass it already turning towards the next.

Play anywhere

Yeti Escape runs in any modern browser on computers, Chromebooks, tablets and phones, with no download and no account. On touch screens, hold your finger where you want to ski and use the buttons for tucking, spinning and jumping. Progress is saved only in your browser and there is nothing to buy. See the Parents & Safety page for more.

Frequently asked questions

Is Yeti Escape like SkiFree?

It is inspired by that classic top-down ski game: you steer a skier down a snowy slope full of trees and ramps, and a yeti chases you. It is a new game with its own modes, tricks and touch controls.

Is Yeti Escape free?

Yes. It runs free in your web browser with no download, account or plugin, and nothing to buy.

How do I escape the yeti?

Tuck (hold the down key or ⏩), point downhill and avoid crashing. Stay ahead long enough and the yeti gets tired and naps.

When does the yeti appear?

In Yeti Run, somewhere past 600 metres. After he naps he comes back later, a little faster each time.

How do I do tricks?

Jump off a ramp or press Space. In the air, left and right spin, up is a spread eagle and down is a daffy. Land spins facing downhill.

Can I play with a mouse or on a phone?

Yes. Point with the mouse or hold your finger where you want to ski; on-screen buttons handle tucking, spinning and jumping.
