🌨️ Avalanche Escape 3D

A wall of snow is right behind you. Ski for your life!

Ski for your life

Avalanche Escape 3D is a free skiing game with one simple, scary idea: the mountain has let go above you, and a huge wall of snow is coming down the slope. Your only way out is down. Point your skis downhill, tuck, and race through the trees to the safe hut at the bottom before the avalanche swallows you.

It is a game of nerve. Going flat out in a tuck is the fastest way to stay ahead, but tucked skiers turn slowly, and one tree can cost you the gap you worked so hard to build. Every run is a mix of bravery and careful steering.

The mirror

A rear-view mirror in the corner of the screen shows what is behind you: a rolling cloud of snow and tumbling blocks of ice. When it fills the mirror, you are in trouble. Watching the mirror and the trail ahead at the same time is part of the challenge, just like checking over your shoulder on a real run.

Things in your way

Trees and rocks are the obvious dangers. Rolling snowballs are sneakier: they bounce down the slope from the side, so you have to judge where they will be, not where they are. Hitting anything slows you down, which lets the avalanche catch up. Blue ramps help: jump them to fly over trouble. Lightning bolts give you a burst of speed, the best way to win back a few metres.

Eight escapes and Endless

Escapes are eight runs, each ending at a safe hut: Bunny Hill Rumble, Pine Gully, Sunrise Couloir, Rolling Thunder, Whiteout, Glacier Run, Dusk Descent and The Big One. They get longer, steeper and busier, and the avalanche gets more determined. Reaching the hut earns one star; reaching it well ahead of the snow earns two or three. Endless mode has no hut at all: how far can you get before the snow catches you?

Coins and outfits

Coins lie along the trail. They are saved after every run and unlock new outfits: Glacier Blue, Pine Ranger and Storm Chaser. You start in Rescue Red.

Tips

Tuck on every clear stretch, and stand up before the trees. Steer early: at high speed, a late swerve is too late. Take the ramps whenever you can. Grab every lightning bolt you safely can. If you hit something, do not panic: tuck straight away to get your speed back. And in the Whiteout escape, when the snow is falling hard, slow down a touch, because you will see the trees later.

How the avalanche moves

The avalanche is not a simple timer. It speeds up and slows down with the steepness of the mountain, just like you do, and it pushes hardest when it is far behind, so you can never relax completely. When you are well ahead it eases off a little, which gives a fair chance to anyone who skis cleanly. In the later escapes it starts closer and moves faster, and The Big One is a proper race from the first second to the hut.

The snow itself is drawn as a rolling cloud with big blocks tumbling inside it, and you can hear it rumbling louder as it gets near. When it fills the mirror and the sound is all around you, that is the moment to find one more burst of speed.

Avalanche safety in real life

Real avalanches are serious, and real skiers stay safe by checking the avalanche forecast, skiing marked and open runs, and never going into closed areas. Backcountry skiers carry a transceiver, a probe and a shovel and travel with friends. This game is pure fantasy fun, but it is a good moment to remember: in the mountains, always follow the ski patrol's signs.
