One car, one egg, endless hills: don't let it crack!

🏆 Best: 0 m 🪙 Coins: 0 🥚 Runs: 0

How to play

  • Pick a world and a car, then press Drive. You start with the Egg Car in Green Hills.
  • Press the right arrow or D (or ▶) to drive. The up arrow and W work too.
  • Press the left arrow or A (or ◀) to brake. Hold it when you are stopped to reverse. Down and S work too.
  • Speeding up rolls the egg backwards. Braking rolls it forwards. Use both gently to keep the egg in the middle.
  • Watch the egg meter: green in the middle is safe, red at the ends means the egg is about to fall.
  • If the egg touches the ground it cracks and the run is over. Flipping the car over ends the run too.
  • Collect coins to unlock new cars. Go further to unlock new worlds with steeper hills.

Drive carefully, there's an egg on the roof

Egg Car Climb is a free egg car game that you play in your browser. Your little car has one very important passenger: an egg, sitting on the roof with nothing to hold it but two small lips at the front and back. Your job is to drive as far as you can over an endless road of rolling hills without letting the egg fall off. If it touches the ground, it cracks, and that is the end of the run.

It is a driving game, a physics game and a balancing game all at once. The car drives just like a real car, with springy suspension, wheels that grip the road and an engine that pulls you up the hills. The egg rolls, wobbles and bounces just like a real egg. Put them together and you get a simple idea that is very hard to put down.

How to keep the egg on the roof

The secret is to think about what happens to the egg when the car changes speed. When you press the gas, the car speeds up and the egg rolls towards the back of the roof. When you brake, the car slows down and the egg rolls towards the front. Going up a hill tilts the roof back, so the egg wants to roll backwards. Going down a hill tilts it forwards. And every bump in the road can make the egg jump.

So you use the gas and the brake to balance it. If the egg is rolling back, ease off the gas or brake a little. If it is rolling forward, give a little gas to catch it. The engine opens up gently when you press the gas, so a short tap is a soft push, while holding the gas gives full power. Flooring it from a standstill is the quickest way to lose the egg off the back of the car.

To help you, there is an egg meter at the top of the screen. It shows where the egg is sitting on your roof. The green part in the middle is safe. Yellow is a warning. Red, at either end, means the egg is about to roll off.

Endless hills

The road starts gently, with a long flat stretch and small rolling hills. The further you go, the bigger and steeper the hills become. Long climbs need steady power to reach the top. Steep drops tip the egg forward. Double hills send you up and down in quick succession, and bumpy sections rattle the egg about. Distance boards appear every 50 metres, with gold boards every 250 metres, and a BEST flag shows where your record is.

Three cars

The Egg Car is a small red car with a flat roof and low lips. It is where everyone starts, and it is the purest test of skill. The Monster Buggy unlocks once you have collected 60 coins. It is a green buggy with big, soft wheels that soak up bumps, so the egg is shaken around less on rough ground. The Pickup Truck unlocks at 180 coins. It is a big blue truck, and the egg rides in the truck bed behind the cab, where the tailgate and the cab wall keep it much safer. The Pickup is heavier and a little slower, but it is the best car for going really far.

Four worlds

Green Hills is the first world, with grassy hills, pine trees and fences. Red Canyon unlocks at a best distance of 300 metres and has steeper red rock hills under a desert sky. Snowy Peaks unlocks at 600 metres, with snowy slopes and falling snow. Aurora Night unlocks at 1,000 metres and takes you over the steepest hills of all, under the green glow of the northern lights. Each world is a little steeper than the one before.

Coins

Gold coins float above the road in little groups of three. Drive through them to collect them. The coins you collect in every run are added to your total, and your total unlocks the Monster Buggy and the Pickup Truck. Collecting coins is a good reason to keep driving even when your best distance is far away.

Tips for going further

Be gentle. Small taps on the gas and the brake work much better than holding them down. Build up speed slowly on flat ground, and keep it steady. Before a big climb, make sure the egg is sitting in the middle of the roof. On the way down a hill, brake gently so you don't pick up too much speed, but not so hard that the egg rolls off the front. And if the egg starts to bounce, ease off and let it settle before you speed up again.

Play anywhere

The game runs in any modern browser on computers, Chromebooks, tablets and phones, with no download and no account. Use the arrow keys or WASD on a keyboard, or the ◀ and ▶ buttons on a touchscreen. Your best distance and coins are saved only in your own browser. There is no violence, just a cracked egg. See the Parents & Safety page for more.
