How to play

  • Pick a jet ski, a course and a mode, then start the race. Splash 90 is ready straight away.
  • Hold W or the up arrow to accelerate. S or the down arrow brakes and reverses. A and D (or the arrows) steer.
  • Ride through every gate: the red buoy must be on your left and the yellow buoy on your right.
  • Hit a ramp at speed, then press Space in the air for a trick. Tricks fill your turbo meter.
  • Press Shift or E to fire the turbo on a straight. Press C to change the camera.
  • Finish three laps in the top three to win stars. Stars unlock faster jet skis.

Race a jet ski on open water

Jet Ski Racer 3D is a free jet ski racing game that you play in your browser. You sit on a little personal watercraft with a big engine, the spray flies up behind you, and five rival riders called Marina, Kai, Dex, Luna and Rio are right on your tail. The course is marked out with floating buoys on the open sea. Race three laps, take the best line through every gate, fly off the ramps and finish on the podium.

Everything is real 3D. The water is a moving ocean with waves that lift and drop your jet ski, so bouncing over a swell feels different from skimming across a calm lagoon. Your wake trails behind you, rivals throw up spray as they pass, and the camera swings round the bends with you.

Buoy gates

Every gate on the course is a pair of buoys: a red one and a yellow one. Ride between them with the red buoy on your left and the yellow one on your right. A big arrow points to the next gate, and if you miss one you have to turn back and go through it, so a wide, smooth line is usually faster than diving at the buoys. A jet ski slides out in a tight turn, so ease off the throttle a little before the gate, aim for the inside buoy and power out of the turn.

Ramps, tricks and turbo

Every course has three floating ramps between its 14 gates. Hit one at full speed and you fly through the air. While you are airborne, press the space bar to spin a trick. Each trick fills part of your turbo meter, and when it is full enough, press Shift or E for a burst of speed that pushes you past the rivals. Finish the spin before you touch down: a clean landing fills three times as much turbo as a sloppy one. The best riders save their turbo for the long straights.

Six courses

Tropical Lagoon is the place to start: calm water, palm-covered islands and wide, friendly gates. Harbor Sprint weaves between piers and moored boats in a busy port. Canyon River runs along a river between tall red cliffs at sunset. Sunset Bay is a long course on the open sea with bigger swells. Night Lights is raced after dark, between glowing buoys and the lights of the harbour. Storm Run is the toughest of all: rough, rolling waves, dark skies and rocks to steer around.

Race, Time Trial and Free Ride

In Race mode you start on the grid with five rivals and race three laps; first place earns three stars, second two and third one. Time Trial puts you alone on the course against a gold time; beat it for more stars. Free Ride is pure fun: open water full of ramps, with 20 hidden stars to find. It is the best place to practise tricks and learn how the jet ski handles.

Four jet skis

Splash 90 is the green starter jet ski. Wave Blaster unlocks at 4 stars, Turbo Fin at 9 and Thunder 300 at 15. Each one is faster than the one before and accelerates harder, and some also turn more sharply. Once you have Thunder 300, go back to the early courses and try to win every one of them.

Tips

Look ahead to the next two gates, not just the next one, and set up your turn early. Never skip a ramp: the turbo from one clean trick is worth more than the time it takes to line it up. Do one trick per jump rather than trying to squeeze in two. Keep some turbo for the final straight of the last lap, when a rival is right beside you. And if you go the wrong way, the arrow will point you back to the gate you missed.
