Offshore powerboat racing

Speed Boat Racing 3D is a free speed boat game that you play in your browser. You drive a long, low offshore powerboat with a roaring engine, and the bow lifts out of the water as you open the throttle. Five rival boats driven by Cruz, Bianca, Marco, Skye and Rex race you over three laps of a buoy course. Thread every gate, launch off the ramps, fire the nitro and fight your way to the front.

A powerboat is heavier and faster than a jet ski, and it feels it. It takes longer to slow down, it swings wide in the turns and it slams down hard after a jump. The 3D ocean moves under you, the spray flies off the hull and a long white wake stretches out behind. Learning to brake early and carry speed through the gates is the key to winning.

Gates and ramps

The course is marked by pairs of buoys: the red buoy must be on your left and the yellow buoy on your right. A big arrow points to the next gate, and if you miss one, the game tells you to go back for it. Between the gates, three ramps are placed on every circuit. Hit one flat out and your boat leaves the water, flies through the air and splashes down further along the course.

Stunts and nitro

In the air, press the space bar to spin a stunt. A stunt that finishes before the boat lands fills a big chunk of your turbo meter; a sloppy landing still gives you a little. Press Shift or E to fire the nitro, and the boat surges forward with a burst of extra speed. Use it on the straights after the gates, or save it to pass a rival at the end of the last lap.

Six circuits

Coral Coast is the easy opener, with calm water around tropical islands. City Marina winds past docks and harbour walls. Glacier Fjord is raced at dawn between icy rock walls, on cold, still water. Volcano Isle sends you round red rock islands at sunset on a lively sea. Moonlight Lagoon is a night race across a tropical lagoon. Hurricane Point is the final challenge: a storm, huge rolling waves and rocks everywhere. Every circuit has its own gold time for Time Trial.

Three ways to play

Race is the main mode: start on the grid with five rivals and finish three laps. First place is worth three stars, second two and third one. Time Trial puts you alone on the circuit against the clock: beat the gold time for more stars. Free Ride is open water with ramps and 20 hidden stars to collect, with no rivals and no clock, perfect for learning the boat.

Four boats

Bay Runner, the red starter boat, is easy to drive. Offshore 30 unlocks at 4 stars, Thunder Hull at 9 and Apex GT at 15. Each one has a higher top speed and stronger acceleration, so a race that was a battle in Bay Runner becomes a chase for gold times in Apex GT.

Tips

Brake before a tight gate, not in it: a powerboat that is still sliding sideways loses far more speed than one that slowed down early. Take the ramps straight on so you land straight. Watch the minimap to see where the rivals are. In the storm on Hurricane Point, keep your speed steady and aim for the gaps between the waves rather than fighting them.
