The fastest way down is through the air

Aqua Slide Race 3D is a free water slide game that you play in your browser. You sit at the top of a tall tower with seven other sliders: Zoe, Max, Ivy, Leo, Mia, Sam and Ava. The water starts to flow, and everyone pushes off down a giant tube slide that twists and corkscrews all the way to a splash pool far below. First to the pool wins.

Just sliding down is fun, but it is not the fastest way. The slides loop back on themselves again and again, and the part of the slide you will reach in twenty seconds is often right below you. Ride high on the wall in a bend, jump off, glide through the air and land on that lower part of the slide, and you skip a whole loop. That is how races are won.

How shortcuts work

When you lean into the outside of a bend, you climb up the wall of the slide. If there is a lower part of the slide within gliding distance, a JUMP sign appears. Press the space bar (or tap the screen) and you launch off the slide. Keep holding to glide, steer towards the yellow ring that marks a safe landing, and drop onto the slide below. A clean landing earns a Shortcut bonus. If you miss the slide, you splash into the water underneath and are put back on the slide a little way back, so a risky jump can cost you a few places.

Steering on a water slide

On a straight, stay in the middle of the trough for the best speed. Going into a bend, the water pushes you up the outside wall: steer with it to set up a jump, or against it to stay low and safe. Other sliders get in the way. You can bump them out of the way, but a clear line is the safer way past.

Ten slides

The slides get taller, longer and wilder as you go. Sunny Splash is a gentle orange and yellow slide to learn on. Lazy Loops has long, easy curves. Blue Lagoon and Pink Twister add tighter turns. Sunset Spiral is raced as the sun goes down. Jungle Drop plunges between the trees. Rainbow Run is striped in every colour. Night Neon glows in the dark. Mega Corkscrew spins round and round, and Volcano Plunge, the tallest slide of all, starts 165 metres up and is raced at dusk. Each slide opens when you finish in the top three on the one before it.

Stars and swimsuits

First place is worth three stars, second place two and third place one, and your best result on each slide counts. Stars unlock new swimsuit colours: Sunny is ready from the start, Aqua unlocks at 4 stars, Berry at 9, Lime at 15 and Golden at 24. Winning all ten slides takes practice and some daring jumps.

Tips

Do not jump at every sign. Look where the ring is first: a short glide to a slide just below is safe, but a long glide across a big gap can go wrong. Let go of the jump button a moment early if you are drifting past the landing. Use the camera key (C) to look around and learn where each slide's shortcuts are. On the later slides, the first big shortcut often decides the race, so go for it early.
