Dress up your mermaid, collect pearls and help your sea friends.
How to play
- Design your mermaid: pick a tail, scales, fin, hair, style, top, skin, extras and a pet. Watch her change in the 3D preview.
- Choose Story, Free Swim or Pearl Dash, then press Dive in!
- W, A, S and D swim and turn. Space swims up, Shift dives down. Hold Q to dash.
- Swim through pearls to collect them. Golden pearls are worth 10.
- Press or hold E (🤝) to help a friend. In the whale song, play the notes with keys 1 to 4 or tap the shells.
- Swim up fast at the surface to leap out of the water!
Your own mermaid
Mermaid Ocean Adventure is a free mermaid game that you play in your browser. It starts in a dress-up studio, where your mermaid floats in a bubble-filled 3D preview, slowly turning so you can see her from every side. Choose her tail colour, from Aqua and Bubblegum to Amethyst, Gold, Coral, Emerald, Midnight and Rainbow. Pick shiny scales, smooth skin, stripes or sparkles. Give her a classic fin, a fan fin or a butterfly fin, then choose her hair colour and style, her top, her skin tone, an accessory and a pet that swims along beside her. Then dive into the ocean.
Some items are ready from the start and others cost pearls, which you collect while you swim. A Gold tail costs 40 pearls, a sparkle pattern 60, a tiara 80, a crown 120 and a baby dolphin pet 150, so there is always something new to save up for.
A bright 3D ocean
The ocean is a real 3D world to explore. In the middle stands the Coral Palace, with pink and aqua towers and Queen Coralie waiting at the gate. To the east lies Turtle Lagoon, shallow and sunny with swaying seagrass. To the north-west, the Kelp Forest grows tall and green. A sunken pirate ship lies in Shipwreck Bay, the Dolphin Reef has a loop of racing rings, and in the south-west the dark Glow Grotto hides in a deep bowl of rock. Schools of fish, rays, turtles and jellyfish swim all around, and sunbeams shine down through the water.
Swimming and leaping
Swim with W, A, S and D, rise with the space bar and dive with Shift. Hold Q to dash with a trail of sparkles. Near the surface your mermaid floats with her head and shoulders out of the water, and if you swim up fast enough, she leaps right out of the waves like a dolphin and splashes back down.
Ten quests
Story mode has ten quests. Swim through five bubble rings by the palace. Collect 20 pearls. Free Shelly the turtle from an old fishing net. Find four lost baby seahorses in the Kelp Forest and lead them home to their mum, Marina. Race Splash the dolphin round the Dolphin Reef. Find the queen's three lost jewels at the shipwreck. Pick up eight pieces of litter and drop them in the recycling clam. Light up six sleeping crystals in the dark Glow Grotto. Sing with Big Blue the whale. And finally, invite your friends to the Ocean Ball at the palace.
The whale song
Big Blue the whale sings a little tune, and four coloured shells light up as each note plays. Then it is your turn: play the song back by tapping the shells or pressing keys 1 to 4. Each song is a note longer than the last. Get one wrong and the whale simply sings it again. It is a gentle memory game with lovely sounds.
Pearl Dash and Free Swim
Pearl Dash gives you three minutes to grab as many pearls as you can. Golden pearls are worth ten. Every pearl you collect goes into your purse for the dress-up studio. Free Swim lets you explore the whole ocean, visit the friends you have made and leap from the waves, with no quests at all.
Nothing can hurt you
Mermaid Ocean Adventure is a calm, friendly game for younger players. There is no way to lose. Grumpy pufferfish puff up if you bump them and you drop a few pearls, which float nearby so you can grab them back. A jellyfish's touch only makes you feel tingly and slow for a moment.
Tips
Pearls float in little trails: follow a trail to collect them all. Use the dash on long swims. In the dolphin race, swim through every ring for a speed boost. In the Glow Grotto, follow the arrow to each crystal. And check the minimap: your friends are the green dots.
