Fishing in the dark

Tiny Hook Fishing: Deep Abyss is a free deep sea fishing game that you play in your browser. It is night, the stars are out, and a little research boat bobs over the deepest water in the ocean. Under the keel the sea goes down 900 metres, getting darker and darker until there is no sunlight at all. Down there live some of the strangest creatures on Earth, and almost all of them glow.

This edition is the hardest of the three Tiny Hook games, and the most beautiful. The deeper your hook goes, the less you can see, so you need your lamp to find the fish in the gloom.

The lamp

Below about 90 metres the water turns dark. Your hook carries a little lamp that lights up a circle of water around it, and the Lamp upgrade makes that circle bigger. Glowing fish are easy to spot even in the dark, but to grab the best catch on the way up, you need to see where everything is. The Lamp is the special upgrade of this edition, alongside Max Depth, Max Fish and Offline Cash.

How to play

Press CAST and stop the meter in the green for a perfect cast, worth 50% extra. The hook sinks to your maximum depth while the creatures move out of its way; just keep clear of the jellyfish, because a sting starts the reel up early. Then the hook winds back up, catching every creature it touches until it is full. At the surface, the catch is flung into the night sky: tap them in the air for double cash.

Five zones of the deep

The Twilight Edge, down to 200 metres, has bristlemouths, lanternfish, hatchetfish, firefly squid and the barreleye, a fish with a see-through head. Glow Bay has the cookiecutter shark, viperfish, fangtooths and glowing siphonophores, and the atolla jellyfish drifts there too: keep your hook away from it. Midnight Canyon has black dragonfish, glowing octopuses, anglerfish, gulper eels and vampire squid. The Abyssal Plain has the black swallower, the frilled shark, rattails, the tripod fish, the dumbo octopus, the blobfish and the sea pig. And the Hadal Trench, down to 900 metres, has the goblin shark, the hadal snailfish, giant isopods and amphipods, the giant squid and, at the very bottom, the legendary Colossal Squid.

The Fish Book

There are 27 species to find, and each has a rare golden version that is worth far more. Complete a whole zone for a bonus. Almost all of them are real deep-sea animals, so the Fish Book doubles as a guide to the creatures that live in the deepest parts of the ocean.

Treasure in the deep

Sunken treasure chests rest in the deeper half of the abyss. Catch one with your hook on the way up for a big burst of cash, which makes it much quicker to save for the next upgrade. The deeper your line reaches, the bigger the chests and the more valuable the creatures, so each Max Depth upgrade opens up a richer part of the sea. Between sessions, Offline Cash keeps your research boat earning, so there is always money waiting when you come back for another dive into the dark.

Tips

Buy the Lamp early: in the dark zones, seeing more fish means catching better ones. Keep going for the perfect cast. Deep creatures are worth much more than shallow ones, so Max Depth is always a good buy. Tap the biggest, most valuable fish first when the catch flies into the air. And collect Offline Cash between sessions.
