Tiny Hook Fishing: Frozen Lake is a free ice fishing game that you play in your browser. It is winter, the lake has frozen solid, and a fisherman in a warm red coat sits by a hole in the ice with a tiny hook on a long line. Below the ice, the cold, clear water goes down 300 metres, past weed beds and rocky ledges to the dark lake bed, where the giant Sturgeon King has lived for a hundred years.

Snow drifts down over the ice, and every cast is a little adventure: how deep can you go, and what will come up on your hook this time?

How to play

Press CAST and stop the swinging meter in the green zone for a perfect cast, worth 50% extra on the whole catch. The hook drops through the hole in the ice and sinks to your maximum depth. Fish swim away from it on the way down, so all you need to do is steer clear of the freshwater jellyfish: a sting starts the reel up early. When the hook reaches the bottom of your line, it starts coming back up, and now it catches every fish it touches, as many as it can hold.

At the surface, the catch flies up out of the hole. Tap the fish while they are in the air to double their value, then sell the rest and spend your money on upgrades.

Five zones under the ice

Under the Ice, the top 40 metres, has rainbow smelt, yellow perch, bluegill, crappie and pumpkinseed. The Weed Beds have walleye, largemouth bass, northern pike, rock bass and even a snapping turtle, plus the mighty muskellunge. The Rocky Shelf has cisco, brook trout, lake trout and whitefish. The Cold Deep has burbot, arctic char, arctic grayling, eelpout and catfish. And the Lake Bed, down to 300 metres, has lake sturgeon, crayfish, the giant blue catfish, the paddlefish, the alligator gar, the mysterious Ghost Pike and the legendary Sturgeon King.

Upgrades and the Fish Book

Max Depth lengthens your line to reach deeper zones. Max Fish lets the hook carry more fish on the way up. Offline Cash keeps earning while you are away. Every new species goes into the Fish Book, which has 27 to find, each with a rare golden version that is worth much more. Complete a whole zone for a bonus. Watch out for the lost mitten: it is not worth much!

Quick casts, big goals

Each cast takes well under a minute, which makes Frozen Lake perfect for a short break. But there is always a bigger goal to chase: the next zone, a full page in the Fish Book, a golden muskellunge or, at the very bottom, the Sturgeon King. Three treasure chests lie at different depths of the lake, waiting for anyone who steers the hook into them on the way up, and Offline Cash means your money keeps growing between sessions, so every visit starts with something new to buy.

Tips

Go for the perfect cast every time. Spend your first money on Max Depth, because deeper fish are worth far more. On the way up, aim for the big, slow fish rather than the tiny fast ones. Golden fish flash with a sparkle, so steer for them whenever you see one. And come back later: Offline Cash adds up while you are away.

Nearly every fish in the game is a real freshwater species from cold northern lakes, from the little yellow perch to the huge lake sturgeon, which really can live for more than a hundred years. The Fish Book is a fun way to learn their names.
