A driving game where every fork is a division question
Switchback Road is a free division game shown from above, like a toy car on a map. A little red car cruises along a road that swings left and right through the scenery. Every so often the road straightens out, widens, and splits into three lanes separated by orange barriers, each lane marked with a big green sign showing a number. A division fact like 42 รท 7 appears at the top of the screen, and the job is to steer into the lane with the answer before the barriers close in.
Choosing the right lane pays out: the car gets a burst of speed and a trail of spinning coins appears on the road ahead, ready to be collected by following the curves. Choosing the wrong lane is just a short detour, where the car slows down for a moment while the correct answer is shown. Running off the road onto the grass slows the car too, but nothing ever crashes, and the drive keeps going until you decide to stop. Kids who would rather not steer can tap an answer button, or press its number key, and the car guides itself into that lane.
Division facts from รท2 to รท12, plus remainders
The six tiers follow the order most classrooms teach division. Tier 1 divides by 2, 5, and 10, Tier 2 by 3 and 4, Tier 3 by 6 and 7, and Tier 4 by 8 and 9. Tier 5 introduces remainders, with lane answers written the way they appear on worksheets, like 3 R2, so reading the whole answer matters. The Championship tier mixes every divisor from 2 to 12 on a faster road with less time before each fork. The wrong lanes use believable mistakes, one more or one less than the real quotient, so each fork takes real recall rather than spotting an odd one out.
Coins unlock new roads to drive: Countryside, Desert Mesa, Autumn Forest, Seaside Cliffs with the ocean alongside, and Night City with headlights on. Best streaks are saved for each tier. Switchback Road is free, works in the browser on computers, tablets, and phones, needs no download or account, and stores progress only in your own browser. Frequently asked questions
How do I play Switchback Road?
Drive along the winding road. When a fork appears, read the division fact at the top and steer into the lane whose sign shows the answer. Use the arrow keys, A and D, the on-screen buttons, dragging, or tap an answer to steer there automatically.
What happens if I pick the wrong lane?
Just a short detour. The car slows down for a moment, the correct lane is shown, and the drive continues. Only your streak resets.
Can the car crash?
No. Driving onto the grass slows the car and the lane barriers gently bump it back, but nothing ever crashes or ends the game.
Does it include remainders?
Yes. Tier 5 uses division problems that don't come out evenly, with answers written like 3 R2. The other tiers practice exact division facts from รท2 up to รท12.
How do I earn coins?
Every correct lane earns bonus coins and drops a trail of coins on the road ahead. Collect them by following the road. Coins unlock new roads, from Countryside up to Night City.
