🎿 Ski Jumping 3D

Olympic-style ski jumping in 3D: take-off, V-style flight, telemark, five judges.

Real ski jumping, in 3D

Ski Jumping 3D is a free ski jumping game that recreates the whole jump the way you see it on TV. You sit on the start bar high above the stadium, push off, crouch in the icy tracks of the in-run and rocket towards the table. One press at the edge launches you, and then you are flying: skis spread in a V, body leaning over them, the landing hill dropping away beneath you while the crosswind tries to roll you sideways. Hold it steady, land a clean telemark, and five judges score your jump.

Each part of the jump is a small skill of its own, which is what makes it feel so close to the real sport.

The in-run

After you push off, your skis run in two grooves cut into the ice. The in-run is not perfectly still: a gentle wobble pushes you sideways, and you steer with A and D to stay in the tracks. Drift out and you lose a little speed, and a crooked take-off loses distance. Stay centred and you hit the table at full speed.

Take-off and flight

Press jump at the very end of the table. The closer to the edge, the better your take-off and the higher your flight starts. In the air, two things matter. First, your lean: hold W to lean forward over your skis and let go to lean back. Lean back too far and you stall; dive forward too far and you drop. Second, your roll: the crosswind tilts your V, and A and D keep it level. A balance box on screen shows both at once: keep the dot inside the green square and you glide.

Telemark and judges

Just before you touch down, press jump again to land in a telemark, one ski in front of the other, knees bent. Five judges then give style marks. As in real competitions, the highest and lowest marks are dropped and the middle three count, added to your distance points. Land on the K-point and you get the base points for that hill; every metre further earns more.

Three hills and five venues

The Normal Hill and Large Hill are the Olympic hills; the Flying Hill is a giant where flights go past 200 metres. The World Cup Tour visits five venues, each with two rounds against nine rival jumpers: the Pinewood Cup, the Eagle Peak Grand Prix, the Lumière Night Jump under floodlights, the Nordic Storm Cup in heavy wind, and the Valhalla Ski Flying final. Podium places win medals, and medals unlock new jump suits: Ice Blue, Night Hawk and Golden Eagle. Training lets you jump any hill freely.

Cameras

Press C to switch cameras. The TV camera shows the classic side-on broadcast view of the whole flight. The chase camera follows right behind your skis, which is the most exciting way to feel the speed. The side camera tracks you along the landing hill so you can judge the distance as you come down.

Tips

Do not over-steer in the in-run: little taps keep you in the tracks. Press jump a hair before the end rather than late. In the air, small W presses work better than one long hold. Watch the wind: on gusty venues, fix your roll first, then your lean. And always land a telemark; it is free style points.

About ski jumping

Ski jumping has been part of every Winter Olympics since 1924. The V-style you use in this game was introduced in the 1980s and changed the sport, because it lets jumpers fly much further. Today the world record is over 250 metres, set on a giant flying hill. It is a sport of courage and precision, and Ski Jumping 3D lets you feel a little of both.

Play anywhere

Ski Jumping 3D runs in any modern browser on computers, Chromebooks and tablets, with no download and no account. On touch screens, on-screen buttons replace the keys. Medals and suits are saved only in your own browser, and there is nothing to buy. See the Parents & Safety page for more.

Frequently asked questions

Is Ski Jumping 3D free?

Yes. It is a free 3D ski jumping game that runs in your browser with no download, account or purchases.

How do I jump further?

Stay in the in-run tracks, press jump right at the edge of the table, and keep the dot in the green box during the flight by leaning forward with W and fixing the roll with A and D.

How is the score worked out?

Distance points plus style marks from five judges. The highest and lowest marks are dropped and the middle three are added, like in real ski jumping.

What is the V-style?

Holding the ski tips apart in a V shape during the flight. It gives more lift, so jumpers fly further. In the game you keep the V level against the wind.

What does the telemark do?

Pressing jump just before touchdown lands a telemark, which earns better style marks from the judges.

How many venues are in the World Cup Tour?

Five, each with two rounds against nine rivals, ending with the Valhalla Ski Flying final on the Flying Hill.
