🚋 Train Roof Obby
Run, jump and duck along a speeding train.
How to play
- Choose a runner and a course, then press Climb Aboard! You start on the last car of the train.
- Run with W, A, S, D or the arrow keys and jump with Space. Get to the golden bell on the locomotive at the front.
- Step on the checkpoint pads (they turn green). If you fall off the train or touch green slime, you pop back at the last checkpoint.
- Pink jump pads throw you high into the air. Jump over the red spinning sweeper bars, or they will push you.
- When LOW BRIDGE flashes, hold C or Shift to duck. When TUNNEL flashes, get down from the tall crates and containers.
- Drag the view or press Q and E to look around. Press R to go back to your checkpoint and P to pause.
- On phones and tablets, use the stick to run and the big Jump and Duck buttons. Drag the picture to turn the camera.
An obby on top of a moving train
Train Roof Obby is a free 3D obstacle course game, or obby, set on the roofs of a train that is racing through the countryside. You start at the very back of the train and your goal is simple: get to the front and ring the golden bell on top of the locomotive. Getting there is the fun part. Between you and the engine are crates to climb, gaps between the cars to leap across, spinning bars that sweep across the roof, wagons full of wobbly green slime and whole walls of shipping containers.
Because the train keeps moving, the world never stops. Trees, fields, houses and telegraph poles rush past on both sides, the wheels clatter over the rail joints and the locomotive's horn sounds whenever something is coming. It feels fast, even when you are standing still on the roof.
Six courses, from a commuter train to a bullet train
Each course is a different train with its own set of obstacles. First Ride is a gentle commuter train that teaches you to jump, climb and duck. Freight Hop adds a caboose, a tank wagon with a narrow round top, an open hopper full of slime with crates floating in it, and a pink jump pad that throws you onto a double stack of containers. Sweeper Express speeds things up at sunset with spinning bars, sliding blocks and big jumps between passenger coaches.
In Side by Side, a wall of containers blocks the roof completely. The only way past is to jump onto a second train running alongside on the next track, ride it forward past the wall, and jump back. Night Mail puts every obstacle together after dark, with the train's lights glowing in the tunnels. And Bullet Blitz is the finale: the fastest train of all, with the countryside flying past and the hardest obstacles in the game.
Bridges and tunnels
The biggest dangers do not come from the train at all. Every so often a warning flashes and the horn sounds: a low road bridge is coming. Hold the duck button and it passes safely over your head. Stand up tall, especially on top of a crate, and it will knock you off the roof. Tunnels are a little different. There is room to stand on the roof of a normal carriage, but anyone perched on the tall containers or crates will be swept off, so climb down before the tunnel arrives. Inside, it goes dark, the tunnel lights flash past and your jumps are cut short by the ceiling.
Learning when to wait, when to duck and when to run is what makes each course a puzzle as well as a test of your jumping. The progress bar at the top shows how far along the train you are and where each checkpoint is.
Checkpoints, coins and stars
Every course has checkpoint pads with little flags. Step on one and it turns green: from then on, if you fall off the train, get knocked off by a bridge or land in the slime, you pop straight back at that checkpoint instead of the start. There are no lives and no game over, so younger players can keep trying until they make it.
Gold coins are scattered along the roofs, often in tricky places: on top of a hurdle, above a sweeper bar, or high in the air above a jump pad. Each course gives up to three stars: one for reaching the bell, one for collecting every coin and one for beating the par time. Stars unlock new runners to play as, from the classic blocky runner to a train conductor with a peaked cap, a ninja, a robot and a shining golden hero.
Why obby games are great for kids
Obstacle courses are one of the most popular kinds of game with children, and for good reason. They are easy to understand, every jump is a small challenge you can see, and the checkpoints turn failure into a quick retry rather than a punishment. Players practise timing, spatial judgement and planning, such as spotting that a moving block will line up in a second or that a gap is too wide without a run-up. They also learn to stay calm and try again, because the next attempt usually goes a little further.
Train Roof Obby is free, needs no download, no account and no chat, and keeps your stars and best times only in your own browser. It works with a keyboard and mouse, and with touch controls on phones and tablets. See the Parents & Safety page for privacy details. Want more speed?
