⬇️ Block Drop
A tighter 9x9 grid block puzzle that fills up fast. Same combo streak as Block Blast.
How to play
- Tap or click one of your 3 pieces to select it.
- Tap or click a cell on the grid to drop the piece there. On mouse, hover first to preview the exact footprint (green means it fits, pink means it doesn't).
- Fill an entire row or column and it clears, adding to your score.
- The 9x9 board is tighter than the standard 10x10, so it fills up fast.
- Clear lines on back-to-back drops to build a streak. Each step in the streak multiplies your bonus.
- Keyboard: press 1/2/3 to pick a piece, arrow keys to move the cursor, Enter or Space to drop it.
- The round ends once none of your 3 pieces fit anywhere on the board.
The same Block Blast formula, dropped onto a tighter board
Block Drop keeps the exact rules of the classic block-fit puzzle, three pieces at a time, fill a full row or column to clear it, chain back-to-back clears into a streak, but shrinks the board down to 9x9 instead of the usual 10x10. Losing that one row and column doesn't sound like much, but it's a meaningful cut in total space, and it changes how forgiving the game feels almost immediately.
Unlike this site's Woodoku, which is also 9x9, Block Drop has no 3x3 sub-boxes to clear, just plain rows and columns. That keeps the rules identical to Block Blast, the only real difference is the smaller footprint, so every piece you place carries a bit more weight and a careless drop costs you a bigger share of the board than it would on the standard grid. The combo streak system works exactly the same way: clearing multiple lines with one piece, or clearing lines on consecutive drops, multiplies your bonus.
No timer, no lives system, just the board. The round ends once none of your current 3 pieces can be placed anywhere on the grid, at which point your final score is compared against your personal best, saved automatically in your own browser (see the Parents & Safety page). Works with mouse, touch, or keyboard, loads instantly, and is safe for a school Chromebook. Want the standard 10x10 board instead? Try Block Blast, or see the full lineup on the Block Games hub.
Frequently asked questions
How is Block Drop different from Block Blast?
The board is smaller, 9x9 instead of 10x10, with the same piece pool and combo streak system. Fewer cells means the board fills up faster and every drop counts for more.
Is Block Drop the same as Woodoku?
No. Woodoku is also 9x9 but splits the board into nine 3x3 boxes that clear alongside rows and columns. Block Drop has no boxes at all, just plain row and column clears, so it plays more like a compact Block Blast than a Woodoku variant.
Is Block Drop free to play, unblocked?
Yes. It runs entirely in your browser tab with no download, no install, and no account, so it works on a school or work computer just like any other web page.
What happens when none of my pieces fit?
The round ends as soon as none of your current 3 pieces can be placed anywhere on the board. Your best score is saved automatically in your own browser, and New Board starts a fresh grid instantly.
