🧱 Build a Boat for Gold
Build a boat from blocks and see how far down the wild river it floats.
How to play
- Choose Treasure Run (earn gold, buy blocks) or Creative (unlimited blocks) and a flag.
- On the dock, pick a block and click the build pad, or the side of a block, to stick it on. The ➖ tool removes blocks.
- Every boat needs exactly one 🪑 captain's seat. Wood and foam float, metal sinks, motors push and balloons lift.
- Press ⛵ Launch to ride the river. W and S drive the motors, A and D steer, Space fires the cannons.
- Grab the coins and pass the stage gates for gold. Spend it in the 🛒 shop on more blocks.
- Your design is kept, so improve it a little after every launch. Not sure? Try the Starter boat.
Build it, launch it, see how far it goes
Build a Boat for Gold is a free boat building game that you play in your browser. You stand on a wooden dock at the top of a long, wild river with a pile of blocks. Stick them together into a boat, sit the captain in the seat, and press Launch. Your boat slides into the water and the river carries it away, past rocks, logs, waterfalls, cannons and icebergs. How far will it get before it breaks apart?
The magic of the game is that every block is real. Each one floats or sinks, has its own weight and its own strength, and can break off when it hits something. A boat built only from foam floats high but smashes on the first rock. A boat built only from metal sinks straight to the bottom. A lopsided boat rolls over. Finding the right mix is the puzzle.
The blocks
Wood Blocks are cheap and float well: the backbone of most boats. Foam Blocks are very light and float high, but break easily. Metal Blocks are super tough but heavy, so they need plenty of floating blocks around them. Rubber Bumpers bounce off rocks and take hits well. Motors push the boat forward and let you steer. Balloons lift the boat, which helps over a waterfall, but pop easily. Cannons fire with the space bar and smash towers, crates and ice. And the Captain's Seat holds your captain: every boat needs exactly one, so keep it safe in the middle.
Building on the dock
Pick a block from the bar and click the glowing build pad to place it, or click the side of a block you already placed to stick the new one onto it. The boat can be up to 9 blocks wide, 6 tall and 13 long. The minus tool takes blocks off again. If you are not sure where to start, load the Starter boat and change it bit by bit.
Ten river stages
Calm Waters is a gentle start. Rocky Rapids is full of boulders. Log Jam has tree trunks across the river. Little Falls is the first waterfall. Cannon Cove has towers on the banks that fire at your boat, so cannons of your own come in handy. Geyser Gorge has jets of water that shoot up from the riverbed. Big Falls is a huge drop. Iceberg Bay is full of floating ice. Volcano Pass rains down hot lava rocks, so a roof over the captain is a good idea. And at the very end lies the Treasure Cave, with a chest full of gold for anyone who makes it.
Gold and the shop
You earn gold by passing the gate at the end of each stage (later gates pay more), by grabbing floating coins and by smashing crates. Reach the Treasure Cave and the chest pays a big bonus. In Treasure Run mode, gold buys more blocks in the shop: wood and foam are cheap, motors, balloons and cannons cost more. Creative mode gives you unlimited blocks of every kind, so you can test wild designs without saving up.
Flags
Reaching new stages unlocks flags for your boat: the Pirate flag at stage 3, the Royal flag at stage 6 and the Golden Captain flag for reaching the Treasure Cave.
Boat building tips
Build wide, not tall: a wide boat is hard to tip over. Put heavy blocks low and in the middle. Add a couple of motors at the back so you can steer round the rocks. Surround the captain's seat with tough blocks. Use bumpers at the front, where the boat hits things first. Add balloons for the waterfalls, and a roof before Volcano Pass. And after every launch, look at what broke first and make that part stronger.
Play anywhere
Build a Boat for Gold runs in any modern browser on computers, Chromebooks, tablets and phones, with no download and no account. Your gold, blocks and boat design are saved only in your own browser. When a boat breaks up, the blocks simply float away and you build again. See the Parents & Safety page for more.

Frequently asked questions
Is Build a Boat for Gold free?
Yes. It is a free 3D boat building game that runs in your web browser with no download, account or plugin.
Why does my boat sink?
It has too many heavy blocks. Metal sinks on its own, so add more wood or foam around it, or a few balloons.
Why does my boat tip over?
It is too tall or lopsided. Build wider and lower, keep heavy blocks in the middle and the same on both sides.
How do I steer?
Add at least one motor. Then W and S drive the motors and A and D steer while you ride the river.
How do I get more blocks?
Earn gold from stage gates, coins, crates and the treasure chest, and spend it in the shop. Creative mode has unlimited blocks.
Is my boat saved?
Yes. Your design is kept between launches and saved in your own browser.
