Lost at sea

Raft Survival Ocean is a free survival game that you play in your browser. You wake up on a tiny wooden raft. There is water in every direction, the sun is hot, and your stomach is rumbling. All you have is a hook on a rope. But the ocean is full of things drifting past: planks of wood, bits of plastic, palm leaves and the odd floating barrel. Hook them, pull them in, and start building your way to safety.

The game is in full 3D. You walk around your raft and look out over a rolling blue ocean that stretches to the horizon. Debris floats past on the current, islands appear in the distance, and every now and then a grey fin circles your raft.

The hook

Hold down the mouse button (or the space bar) to charge your throw, aim at a piece of floating loot, and let go. The hook flies out and catches whatever is near where it lands, then you reel it in. A longer charge throws further. Barrels are the best catch, because they are full of useful things.

Building and crafting

Press B to open the build menu. Planks and plastic make rope and new raft tiles, so your raft can grow bigger and bigger. You can craft a fishing rod and a spear, and build stations on your raft: a water purifier to turn sea water into fresh water, a grill to cook the fish you catch, a sail you can steer to choose where you drift, an anchor to stop drifting, and finally a radio. Stand next to a station and press E to use it.

Food, water and health

Keep an eye on your food and water bars. Press R to drink and F to eat. Catch fish with the rod and cook them on the grill. Coconuts from the islands help too. If your health runs out, you do not lose the game: your castaway just faints and wakes up again.

Sharky

Sharky the shark circles the raft, and every now and then he swims in and starts biting a tile at the edge. Grab your spear (key 3), go to that edge and poke him. Three good pokes and he swims away for a while. If you are too slow, the tile is lost, so keep a few spare planks ready.

Islands and rescue

Islands drift into view now and then. Steer towards one with your sail, and when you are close enough, press E to go ashore and explore it. Islands have coconuts, scrap and, in Story mode, the parts you need to build a radio. Find all three radio parts, build the radio on your raft, call for help, and a rescue boat comes to take you home.

Three ways to play

Story mode has a goal: find the three radio parts and get rescued. Endless mode has no rescue: how many days can you survive on the open ocean? Peaceful mode switches off hunger, thirst and the shark, so you can just build and explore at your own pace. Surviving more days unlocks new outfits: Sailor after 3 days, Explorer after 7 and Captain after 12.

Tips

Hook everything in the first minutes and build a purifier as early as you can. Grow the raft a few tiles before you go exploring, so Sharky cannot take it all. Build the sail and the anchor before you need them: islands drift past quickly. Keep the spear handy. And check the saved game on the menu: your raft is waiting for you next time.

Play anywhere

Raft Survival Ocean runs in any modern browser on computers, Chromebooks, tablets and phones, with no download and no account. On a touchscreen, use the stick to walk and the on-screen buttons for everything else. Your raft and records are saved only in your own browser. Nobody gets hurt: fainting just means a little nap.
