Your own fishing boat

Deep Sea Fishing Boat 3D is a free fishing game that you play in your browser. You have a fishing boat, a rod, a sonar screen and the whole sea in front of you. Motor out of Sunny Marina, past the harbour and the islands, find where the fish are, catch as many as your hold can carry, and bring them back to sell. The further out you go, the bigger the fish.

This is two games in one. It is a boat simulator, where you steer through a real 3D harbour, read the sea and dock at the market. And it is a fishing game, where every fish fights back and the biggest ones can take minutes to land.

Finding fish

The sonar screen shows the sea floor and fish schools below and around your boat. Fish live in four zones: Harbour Bay near the marina, the Reefs around the islands, Deep Water further out and Blue Water, the open ocean. Each zone has different species, and the outer zones have bigger, rarer and more valuable fish. A longer-range sonar, bought at the market, shows schools from much further away.

Trolling and bottom fishing

There are two ways to fish. To troll, press F to put the lines out and cruise slowly, between 2 and 8 knots, over the open water: that is how you catch fast swimmers like mackerel, mahi-mahi, tuna and marlin. To fish the bottom, stop the boat right over a school and let your bait sink to the sea floor, where snapper, grouper and amberjack live.

Fighting a fish

When a fish bites, the rod bends and a tension bar appears. Hold the space bar (or the reel button) to wind the fish in while the bar is green. When the fish makes a run, the tension climbs into the red: let go of the reel, or the line will snap. Start reeling again when it calms down. But do not wait too long: if the line goes slack, the fish can shake itself free. A big marlin can run again and again before it gives up.

The fish market

When your hold is full, head back to Sunny Marina and dock in the green box at the fish market to sell your catch. Every day one species is the market special and sells for double, so it is worth hunting for it. Spend your money on better rods: the Graphite rod costs $250, the Big-game rod $700 and the Pro trophy rod $1,600. Better rods let you fight bigger fish without snapping the line.

Three boats

The Fishing Boat is your starter boat, with a hold for 10 fish. The Sport Fisher unlocks when you have earned $1,500: it is fast, so you can reach the blue water quickly, but it holds only 7 fish. The Trawler unlocks at $4,500 and has a huge hold for 24 fish, so you can stay out much longer.

Night fishing and the Fish Log

Night Fishing takes you out after dark, when the swordfish and the giant squid come up from the deep. Every species you catch goes into the Fish Log, with the weight of your biggest one. There are 12 species to find: mackerel, sea bass, red snapper, grouper, barracuda, mahi-mahi, yellowfin tuna, amberjack, blue marlin, mako shark, swordfish and the giant squid.

Tips

Start close to the marina and work your way out as your rods get better. Watch the troll speed: too fast and the fish will not bite. In a long fight, patience wins: let the fish tire itself out on its runs. Check the market special before you head out. And remember the way home: a full hold is worth nothing until you sell it.
