🔧 Car Mechanic Garage
Diagnose it, fix it, hand back the keys.
How to play
- Pick a job. Read (or listen to) what the customer says is wrong with their car.
- Click a part of the car to select it. Engine parts are under the bonnet: press Open bonnet first.
- Tyres, brakes, springs, oil and the exhaust are reached from below: press Raise lift. Click a wheel to take it off and reach the brakes and spring behind it.
- Press Inspect to see a part's condition. Red means worn out, amber is OK for now and green is good.
- Remove a worn part, then press Fit new to put in a new one. Parts cost money, so don't replace parts that are still good.
- When you're done, put the wheels back on, lower the lift, close the bonnet and press Finish job.
- Drag to look around the car, and scroll or pinch to zoom. The View button jumps between handy camera angles.
Be the mechanic
Car Mechanic Garage is a free 3D game where you run your own little car repair workshop. One by one, customers drive in with a problem. Mrs. Patel's car won't start. Grandpa Joe's brakes squeal every time he stops. Big Dave's exhaust is so loud the neighbours are complaining. Your job is to work out what is wrong, fix it, and hand back the keys, without charging them for parts they didn't need.
Every job takes place on a two-post lift in a tidy workshop, with the tools on the pegboard, parts on the shelves and a stack of tyres in the corner. You can walk round the car by dragging, zoom in close, and jump between handy views of the front, the side, the engine bay and underneath.
Find the fault
Customers describe what they notice, not what is broken, so you have to think like a real mechanic. A car that clicks but won't start probably has a flat battery. Squealing when braking points to worn brake pads. A rough engine that drinks fuel could mean old spark plugs or a clogged air filter. A clunk over bumps suggests a broken suspension spring.
To find out for sure, inspect the parts. Open the bonnet to reach the battery, air filter, spark plugs, coolant tank and headlight bulbs. Raise the lift to check the tyres, the oil and the exhaust silencer. Take a wheel off to see the brake pads and the spring behind it. Each inspection shows the part's condition as a percentage: red parts are worn out, amber parts are fine for now, and green parts are good.
Fix it properly
Once you have found a worn part, remove it and fit a new one. New parts cost money, which comes off what the customer pays you, so a good mechanic only replaces what really needs replacing. When everything is done, put the wheels back on, lower the lift and close the bonnet before you hand the car back.
Fix every fault without replacing any good parts for three stars. Swap a couple of good parts and you still get two stars, but it costs you. Miss a fault and the customer will not be happy, and you will only be paid for what you fixed.
Twelve jobs, then random customers
The twelve story jobs start simple, with a single flat battery or flat tyre, and build up to cars with three or four faults at once. The last story job, Racing Rosa's car, is bouncy, squeaky, loud and won't start. Finish all twelve and random jobs open up, with new customers and random faults every time, so you can keep building up your cash.
Learn how cars work
Car Mechanic Garage is a fun way to learn what the main parts of a car do and how mechanics diagnose problems. You will find out why cars need oil changes, what brake pads and springs do, and how the battery, spark plugs and air filter help the engine run.
Car Mechanic Garage is free, needs no download or account, and keeps your cash and stars only in your own browser. Customers speak using your browser's built-in voice, and the mute button turns it off. See the Parents & Safety page for details. Frequently asked questions
Is Car Mechanic Garage free?
Yes. It is a free 3D car repair game that runs in a web browser with no download, account or plugin.
How do I find what is wrong with a car?
Listen to the customer, then inspect the parts that could cause that problem. Inspecting shows each part's condition: red means it is worn out and needs replacing.
How do I reach the brakes?
Raise the lift, click a wheel and take it off. The brake pads and the suspension spring are behind the wheel.
Why did I lose a star?
Three stars need every fault fixed without replacing any parts that were still good. New parts also cost money, which comes out of your pay.
What happens after the twelve jobs?
Random jobs open up, with a new customer and random faults each time.
Does it work on phones and Chromebooks?
Yes. It runs in any modern browser with 3D graphics (WebGL). Drag to look around, pinch to zoom and tap parts to select them.
