A truck jumping game: the ground is lava

Truck Hopper 3D is a first-person parkour game played on top of a moving truck convoy. You start on a tower beside a desert highway lined with semi trucks. When the engines roar and the convoy pulls away, you jump onto the nearest trailer and the race is on: run along the roofs, leap the gaps between trucks, hop across lanes and keep going until you reach the green finish platform at the end of the road. There is just one rule. Never touch the ground.

It is a simple idea that quickly gets wild. The trucks are not on your side: they swerve between lanes, slam into concrete barriers, pile into each other and launch off ramps over broken bridges. If you love Clustertruck-style truck hopping games, this one runs straight in your browser with no download.

How the jumping works

Everything moves, and so do you. While you stand on a trailer you travel with it, so you can walk and run along the roof as if it were standing still. The moment you jump, you keep the speed of the truck you jumped from, the way you would in real life. That makes jumping to a truck in the next lane easy, but leaping to a truck that is going faster or slower than yours needs timing. Jump from the front of a fast truck onto the back of a slow one and you will land with room to spare.

You can steer a little in the air, so you can correct a jump that is drifting off line. Sprinting with Shift or by pushing the stick all the way gives you a longer jump. If a truck you are riding crashes, you are thrown forward with its speed: jump at the right moment and you can turn a crash into a huge leap onto the next truck.

Barriers, ramps, hammers and low bridges

Every level adds hazards along the road. Barriers block one or two lanes, and any truck that hits them crashes and spins, often taking the trucks behind it into a pile-up. Broken bridges leave a gap in the road: trucks in the lanes with orange ramps fly over it, and the rest fall into the chasm, so make sure you are on a ramp truck when the gap arrives. Swinging hammers sweep across the road just above the trailer roofs, and low gantries cross the road at head height, so you have to jump over them as your truck drives underneath.

At the end of the level the road stops at a cliff. The green finish platforms sit on both sides of the road just before it, so move to an outside lane and jump across before your truck drives off the edge.

Thirty levels in three worlds

Desert Highway teaches the basics on a long straight road through sand, cacti and rocks: your first hops, barriers, lane changes, a pile-up, the first low bridge and a ramp jump. Canyon Run opens when you have 12 stars and squeezes the road between towering red cliffs, with more broken bridges, double ramps and the first hammers. Neon Night opens at 30 stars: a city highway after dark lit by glowing windows and neon trailer lights, packed with hammers, gantries and chaos. The convoys get faster and thinner as you go, so later levels need longer, braver jumps.

Points, stars and abilities

Every new truck you land on scores 100 points, and every second you spend in the air before a landing scores more. Finishing a level adds 500. Each level has two points targets: reach the first for two stars and the second for three. To score big, take the long way: hop across as many different trucks as you can and go for long jumps.

Your points are also money. In the menu you can spend them on three abilities and equip one at a time. Double Jump lets you jump again in mid-air, perfect for saving a jump that falls short. Slow-Mo slows time while you hold Q or the turtle button, as long as the energy bar lasts. Dash fires you forward through the air with E or the wind button. Each one changes how you play, and the later levels are much friendlier once you have one.

Tips for staying off the ground

Jump onto a truck as soon as the convoy starts, or it will leave you on the tower. Run towards the front of your truck so you can see what is coming, and pick your next truck early. Watch the trucks ahead for crashes: a barrier in your lane means your truck is about to stop dead. Before a broken bridge, find a truck lined up with an orange ramp. Look up for hammers and gantries, and jump over the gantry just before it reaches you. At the end, move to the outside lanes in good time so the finish platform is in reach.

Controls

On a computer: W A S D or the arrow keys move, the mouse looks around (click the game to lock the mouse pointer, press Esc to free it), Space jumps, Shift sprints, Q uses Slow-Mo, E dashes, R restarts and P pauses. On phones and tablets, use the stick on the left to move, drag on the right side of the screen to look around and press the buttons to jump and use your ability.

Frequently asked questions

What is the aim of Truck Hopper 3D?

Jump onto the moving trucks, hop from truck to truck and reach the green finish platform at the end of the road without ever touching the ground.

Why do I keep falling behind when I jump?

You keep the speed of the truck you jumped from. Jumping onto a faster truck behind you or a slower one ahead is easy; for a bigger leap, sprint before you jump.

How do I get past the low gantries?

Jump just before the gantry reaches you, so you go over it while your truck drives underneath.

What do points do?

Points earn stars on each level and are spent in the menu on abilities: Double Jump, Slow-Mo and Dash.

How do I unlock the other worlds?

Collect stars: Canyon Run opens at 12 stars and Neon Night at 30.

Can I play on a phone or tablet?

Yes. Use the stick to move, drag on the right side to look around and tap the button to jump.

Is Truck Hopper 3D free?

Yes. It is free to play in the browser with no download, no account and nothing to buy.
