🚙 Monster Truck Crush

Squash cars, smash crates and hop to the flag in a big friendly monster truck. No way to fail!

A big friendly monster truck

Monster Truck Crush is a monster truck game made for younger kids. You drive a giant cartoon truck with huge wheels and a friendly face through short, colourful levels, and your job is simple: squash everything in your way and reach the chequered flag. Old cars squash flat the moment a wheel touches them, crate towers burst into splinters and barrels pop like party poppers. It is loud, bouncy and very satisfying.

There is no timer and no way to lose. If the truck tips over and lands on its roof, it waits a moment and then flips itself back onto its wheels with a cheerful pop, so even the youngest drivers always make it to the finish. The controls are just drive, back up and hop.

How to play

Hold the right arrow (or D, or the ▶ button on a tablet) to drive forward. The left arrow backs up. Drive straight into a car and its roof caves in under your front wheel, then your back wheel finishes it off. Stacks of two or three cars squash one at a time from the top, crunch, crunch, crunch, until they are flat enough to roll over.

Press Space, the up arrow or the big orange HOP button to make the truck bounce into the air. Hopping is handy for tall car stacks and for getting over the top of a hill. While the truck is in the air, left and right tip it forwards and backwards so it lands on its wheels, and if you let go it slowly levels itself.

Three worlds to crush

The Junkyard is where every driver starts: rows of rusty cars, crate towers and the first ramps. Desert Dunes opens at 8 stars, with big rolling sand hills, canyon drops, sticky mud and cactus-country barrels. Snowy Peaks opens at 20 stars, with mountain climbs, snowball ramps and patches of slippery ice where the truck slides if you go too fast. Each world ends with a Boss level packed with junk.

Watch out for the brown mud strips, which slow the truck right down, and the pale blue ice, where the wheels spin and grip much less. Neither can stop you, but they change how you drive.

Stars and smashing

Each level is worth up to three stars. You get the first for reaching the flag, the second for smashing at least 60 percent of the cars, crates and barrels and the third for smashing 90 percent. The counter at the top of the screen shows how many you have smashed so far. Missed a car pile? Back up and have another go, or replay the level later. The total number of cars you have ever crushed is saved too.

Good for learning

Simple driving games are good practice for little hands. Holding a key to keep moving, letting go to slow down and pressing a second key at the right moment to hop all build coordination and timing. The levels also show cause and effect very clearly: drive into something and it squashes, hop and you fly. And choosing a paint colour for your truck before every drive is half the fun.

Tips for little monster truck drivers

Keep the drive button held down and the truck will power through almost anything. Tall stacks of three cars take a moment to squash, so keep pushing and listen for the crunch of each one. If the truck really stops, press HOP right in front of the pile and it bounces up onto the top. Before a big ramp, build up speed so you fly further, and while you are in the air, let go of the keys and the truck levels itself for a soft landing.

Want every star? Watch the counter at the top of the screen. Crate towers and barrels count as well as cars, and they burst as soon as any part of the truck touches them, even the roof. If you fly over a pile and miss it, back up with the left arrow and squash it on the way back. On ice, drive gently uphill: spinning wheels slide backwards. And in the mud, just keep going; it is slow, but the truck always gets through.

Real physics, cartoon fun

Behind the cartoon look is a small physics simulation. The truck's two wheels and roof are connected like a rigid triangle, gravity pulls it down, the wheels grip the ground and push it along, and hills, ramps and drops make it bounce, tip and fly in a believable way. Car piles are part of the ground, so as each car squashes, the pile gets lower and the truck climbs over it naturally.

Controls

On a computer: the right arrow or D drives, the left arrow or A backs up (and tips the truck in the air), and Space or the up arrow hops. R restarts the level and P pauses. On phones and tablets, big buttons appear under the game: back up and drive on the left, HOP on the right.

Free and safe for kids
