A Halloween stunt bike ride

Moto Xtreme Spooky Land is a free Halloween motorcycle stunt game that you play in your browser. The moon is full, the bats are out and the pumpkins are glowing. Ride your dirt bike past crooked gravestones and twisted trees, jump over bubbling pits of green goo, and dodge the ghosts that float above the track. It is the spooky member of the Moto Xtreme series of stunt bike games, and like the rest of the series it is made for kids and families: the ghosts are cute rather than scary, and nothing is gory.

The controls are the classic stunt bike controls: gas, brake and lean. If you have played the Spooky Land levels of Moto X3M and want more Halloween fun, here are twenty new courses to conquer.

Ghosts, pumpkins and goo

Three spooky hazards make this game different. The ghosts float slowly up and down above the track. Bump into one and you crash, but when a ghost floats high there is just enough room to ride underneath, so the trick is to slow down, watch its rhythm and go at the right moment. Some sections have two ghosts moving in opposite directions, which needs good timing.

Pumpkin bombs sit on the track with a flickering face. They work like exploding barrels: touch one and it blows up with a big bang, sending you flying. Use the ramps to jump right over them. Finally, every gap in the ground hides a pit of bubbling green goo, so you have to clear every jump.

20 haunted levels

The first ten levels take place on the haunted hill. Haunted Hill and Pumpkin Patch introduce ghosts and pumpkin bombs, Graveyard Gaps is all about jumps, Ghost Town is full of ghosts, Creepy Crates adds boxes to ride over, Bat Cave Loop has loops and double loops, Witch's Bridge has crumbling bridges, Skeleton Swing has swinging wrecking balls, Spooky Springs bounces you up onto tall platforms, and Haunted Mansion mixes steps, spinners and moving platforms.

The second ten move into the misty swamp, with glowing green goo everywhere. Swamp Start and Goo Pits are full of jumps, Will-o'-Wisps adds more floating hazards, Sunken Graves has tall pillars, Swamp Spinners and Bog Boats test your timing, Night Terrors sends you down huge drops, Monster Mash mixes wrecking balls and ghosts, and Fright Night and Spooky Master are the hardest rides in the game.

Flips, stars and your ghost bike

Every complete backflip or frontflip in the air takes one second off your time, so the best riders flip off every ramp. Finish fast for three stars and collect stars to unlock six bike colours, from Pumpkin Rider to Golden Ghost. There is one friendly ghost that helps you, too: your best run is saved as a see-through ghost bike that rides alongside you, so you can race yourself and see where to go faster.

Tips for a spooky speedrun

Ghosts move in a steady rhythm. If you brake a little before one and wait for it to rise, you will pass safely and lose less time than crashing. Keep the gas on over pumpkin bombs and gaps. On crumbling bridges, never stop. And remember you can press R or the ⟲ button at any time to go straight back to the last checkpoint flag.
