Your own little dairy farm

Dairy Ranch is a free 3D farm game all about cows. You start with two: Daisy, a black-and-white Holstein, and Bella, a golden-brown Jersey. They wander around a green pasture next to a big red barn, swishing their tails, nibbling the grass and wandering over to the trough for a drink. Your job is to keep them fed, watered, clean and happy, and in return they give you milk.

Every cow has a name tag floating above her head. When she needs something, a little icon pops up, like 🌾 when she's hungry, 💧 when she's thirsty, or 🥛 when she's ready to be milked, so you always know who needs you next.

Caring for your cows

Click a cow to see her needs as bars: food, water, cleanliness and happiness. Give her an armful of hay from the pile by the barn, give her a good brush until she sparkles, and keep the water trough topped up for the whole herd. The better you look after her, the happier she gets, and a happy cow gives much more milk than a grumpy one.

Milking in rhythm

Milking is a little rhythm game. Squeeze left, then right, then left again, in a steady beat, and watch the milk fill the bucket. Keep a good rhythm going and each squeeze gives more milk; squeeze the same side twice and you lose your streak. You can tap the big buttons on a phone or use the left and right arrow keys on a computer.

Every litre goes into the silver milk tank. At the end of the day the milk truck rumbles up the lane and pays you for everything in the tank.

Cheese, ice cream and calves

Buy a cheese press and some of each day's milk becomes cheese, which is worth more. Add an ice cream machine and you'll make ice cream too. Very happy cows sometimes have a calf overnight: a tiny version of its mum that grows up into a milking cow in three days.

Grow the herd

Money buys more hay, more cows and useful upgrades. There are four breeds to choose from: Holsteins give lots of milk, Jerseys give creamy milk that sells for more, fluffy Highland cows are tough and Brown Swiss are steady milkers. Upgrades like an automatic water trough, a hay feeder, a spinning cow brush and even a milking machine take some of the work off your hands, and the bigger barn makes room for ten cows. Your ranch is saved every day, and nine goals unlock new barn colours.

Perfect for animal lovers

Dairy Ranch is gentle and caring, with no way to lose: cows don't run away or get ill, they just give less milk when they're unhappy. It teaches responsibility and routine, and shows where milk, cheese and ice cream come from. There are no ads inside the game, no chat and no sign-up.

Dairy Ranch is free, needs no download or account, and keeps your ranch saved only in your own browser. Cows' names are read out using your browser's built-in voice, and the mute button turns it off.
