How to play

  • Pick a client brief, or choose a room in My Dream House to design freely.
  • Choose a tab in the bottom bar (Living, Bedroom, Kitchen, Bathroom, Fun, Decor, On walls or Paint), pick something, then click the floor or a wall to place it. A green preview means it fits.
  • Big furniture turns its back to the nearest wall by itself. Press R or âŸŗ to turn it your own way.
  • Small things like lamps, plants, books and laptops can go on tables, desks, counters and bedside tables.
  • Click anything you've placed to change its colour, turn it, move it or remove it. ↊ī¸ undoes your last change.
  • Drag to look around, scroll or pinch to zoom. When every box on the client's checklist is ticked and you're in budget, press ✅ Show.

Design a room in 3D

Dream House Designer is a free 3D house design game where you are the interior designer. Every room is shown like a dollhouse: you look in from above, and the walls nearest to you fold down so you can always see inside. Drag to walk the camera around the room, scroll or pinch to zoom in on the details, and press 👀 to sit back and watch the room turn slowly so you can admire your work.

Placing furniture is quick and tidy. Pick something from the bar along the bottom and a see-through preview follows your mouse or finger, green when it fits and red when it doesn't. Everything snaps to a 50 centimetre grid, and big pieces such as beds, sofas, wardrobes, bookcases, kitchen counters and bathtubs automatically turn their backs to the nearest wall, just like a real designer would place them. If you want a sofa floating in the middle of a room facing the fireplace, press R to turn it yourself.

57 things to place

The catalogue has six tabs. The living room has sofas, armchairs, a coffee table, a TV on a stand, a bookcase full of colourful books, a floor lamp, two sizes of rug, a big plant, a beanbag, a brick fireplace with flickering flames and an upright piano. The bedroom has single beds, a double bed and a bunk bed with a ladder, bedside tables, a wardrobe, a chest of drawers, a desk and chair, a toy box and a cosy pet bed. The kitchen has counters, a sink, a cooker, a fridge covered in magnets and a dining table, and the bathroom has a bubble bath, a glass shower, a toilet, a wash basin and a stack of towels.

The Fun tab is where rooms come alive: a play slide, a rocking horse, an artist's easel, a telescope, an arcade machine, a drum kit, a guitar and a fish tank with fish that really swim. Decor adds the finishing touches: table lamps, pot plants, flowers, piles of books, a laptop, a fruit bowl, a teddy bear, candles and a globe. Small things can stand on the floor or on top of tables, desks, counters, chests of drawers and bedside tables. On the walls you can hang paintings, mirrors, clocks, shelves, a space poster, fairy lights, bunting flags and a big wall TV.

Colours, paint, wallpaper and floors

Click anything you've placed and a panel lets you change its colour: a pink sofa, a teal fridge, a purple arcade machine or a navy bunk bed. The Paint tab covers the walls in twelve colours or in wallpaper (stripes, polka dots, a starry night, leaves, bricks, rainbow stripes or wood panels) and lays the floor with oak or walnut boards, white or aqua tiles, checkers, stone, grass, or carpets in five colours. Each room has a real door and windows with curtains, and the doorway always has to be kept clear so people can get in.

Twelve clients to make happy

In client mode, each client brings a brief. Leo, age 7, wants a bed, a toy box and a lamp and loves blue and fun things. Grandma Rosa wants a cosy lounge for tea with three seats and plants, and definitely no noisy gadgets. Chef Amir needs a proper kitchen, Mia needs a bedroom she can study in, the Park family wants a sparkling bathroom, the twins need two beds and lots of toys, Ava the artist wants a bright studio, Sam wants a bedroom that looks like outer space, a jazz band needs a music room, Noor needs a lounge that her pets will love too, a club wants a games room for game night, and finally the Rivera family asks for their dream living and dining room.

Every brief has a checklist of must-haves, a budget and a list of the things and colours the client loves. As you design, a live mood meter shows how happy they are, with little notes such as "Loves the plants" or "Wishes there was more purple". Tick every box without going over budget for one star, make a happy client for two stars, and make a client who loves it for three. Watch out for clutter: a room that's too crowded makes people grumpy, and a room that's too empty feels unfinished.

Why kids love home design games

House design games are a playful way to practise planning, budgeting and spatial thinking. Kids decide what a room needs, work out whether a bed fits beside a wardrobe, keep a doorway clear, add up prices to stay within budget and think about colours that go together. There's no timer and no way to lose, so it's relaxing, creative fun for designers of every age.

Dream House Designer is free, runs in any modern browser on computers, tablets and phones, and needs no download or sign-up. There are no ads inside the game and no chat, and your stars and saved rooms stay in your own browser. Parents can read more on the Parents & Safety page. Frequently asked questions

Is Dream House Designer free?

Yes. It is free to play in the browser with no download, no account and no in-game purchases.

How do I turn furniture?

Press R or the âŸŗ button before placing it, or click a placed piece and press Turn. Big pieces turn their backs to the nearest wall automatically.

Why is my furniture red?

A red preview means it doesn't fit there: the spot is taken, it would block the doorway or a window, or a picture on the wall is in the way.

How do I get three stars?

Tick every item on the client's checklist, stay within budget, add three of each kind of thing they love and use their favourite colours on the furniture, walls and floor. The notes under the mood meter show exactly what is still missing.

Are my designs saved?

Yes. Rooms in My Dream House save automatically in your browser, and your stars are saved too.
