Down the mountain
Downhill MTB 3D is a free mountain bike racing game that you play in your browser. You start at a wooden hut high on a mountain, with snow on the peaks behind you and a valley far below. Push off, and gravity takes over. The trail drops away through meadows and pine forests, round tight bends and over wooden jumps, all the way down to the finish arch at the bottom. The fastest rider to the bottom wins.
The mountain is huge and built in real 3D, with thousands of trees, rocks, snowy peaks and clouds drifting overhead. The brown dirt trails are cut into the hillside, marked with coloured posts, and you can see them winding below you as you ride. Your rider pedals, stands up on the bumps and leans into the corners.
Gravity and brakes
On a downhill bike, you don't need to pedal much. The slope pulls you faster and faster, so the real skill is in the brakes. Brake before each bend, not in the middle of it, then let the bike run again on the way out. Brake too late and you fly off the trail into the grass, which slows you down a lot, or worse, into a tree, which is a crash. Watch the dust fly from your back wheel when you brake hard.
Three trails
Like a real bike park, the trails are colour coded. Green Meadow is the easy trail: wide and flowy, with gentle bends through the grass, perfect for your first run. Blue Forest is medium: narrower and twisty, through the thickest part of the forest. Black Ridge is for experts: steep and fast down the side of the mountain, with more wooden jumps and bigger ones too. Each trail has its own colour of marker posts so you always know where you are.
Gates and the clock
Every trail has twelve timing gates, pairs of red and blue flags across the trail, ending with a chequered finish arch at the bottom. Ride between the flags of each gate in order. The yellow arrow on the screen points to the next gate, and the minimap shows the gates still to come. Your time is shown at the top, and each trail has three time goals for your three stars. Your best time on each trail is saved.
Wooden kickers
Wooden kicker ramps sit on the straighter parts of the trails, and there are more on Black Ridge. Ride over one at speed and you fly through the air. Keep the bike straight and you land smoothly. Land badly, over the handlebars or too hard on the back wheel, and you crash and start again from the last safe point on the trail.
Free Ride
In Free Ride there is no clock and no gates. The whole mountain is yours: ride any trail, cut between them, or explore the forests and meadows. When you reach the bottom of the valley, you are taken back up to the top for another run.
Four bikes
The Trail Hardtail is a light, simple bike for learning. The Enduro Pro unlocks at 3 stars and is a little faster with better brakes. The Downhill Beast unlocks at 6 stars and is built for speed. The Carbon Rocket unlocks at 9 stars and is the fastest, with the strongest brakes and the most grip.
Tips
Look ahead: the minimap and the arrow show you which way the next bend goes. On Green Meadow you can let the bike run; on Blue Forest and Black Ridge, brake early for the hairpins. If you leave the trail, steer straight back onto the brown dirt. Trees are the biggest danger, so never cut corners through the forest.
Play anywhere
Downhill MTB 3D runs in any modern browser on computers, Chromebooks, tablets and phones, with no download and no account. Use the keyboard, or the GAS, BRAKE and steering buttons on a touchscreen. Your stars, best times and distance ridden are saved only in your own browser. Crashes are a cartoon tumble with no injuries. See the Parents & Safety page for more.

Frequently asked questions
Is Downhill MTB 3D free?
Yes. It is a free 3D mountain bike game that runs in your web browser with no download, account or plugin.
Which trail should I start with?
Start with Green Meadow. It is wide and gentle. Blue Forest is twistier, and Black Ridge is the steepest and fastest, with the most jumps.
Do I have to pedal?
Only to get going. The slope does most of the work, so the skill is in braking before the bends and steering cleanly.
What happens if I hit a tree?
It is a crash, and you start again from the last safe point on the trail. The clock keeps running, so stay on the trail.
How do I unlock new bikes?
Earn stars by beating the time goals on the three trails. The Enduro Pro unlocks at 3 stars, the Downhill Beast at 6 and the Carbon Rocket at 9.
Is there a mode without a timer?
Yes. Free Ride lets you explore the whole mountain with no clock and no gates.
Does it work on phones and Chromebooks?
Yes. Use the keyboard on computers and Chromebooks, or the on-screen buttons on phones and tablets.
