How to play

  • Boxes of stock wait on the pallets in the storeroom at the back. Click a box to pick it up.
  • Click a matching fixture to stock it: dry goods on a shelf unit, milk and cheese in a fridge, ice cream and pizza in a freezer, and fruit, vegetables and bread on a produce stand. Each fixture holds one product.
  • Order more boxes in the Order stock panel under the game before the shelves run empty. They arrive in the storeroom a few seconds later.
  • When shoppers queue to pay, click the checkout (or press 1). Press Scan (or S) for every item on the belt.
  • Card payments just need accepting. For cash, the screen shows the change due: tap the notes and coins to make exactly that amount, then press Give change.
  • Set prices in the Prices panel. Shoppers pay up to about 20% over the market price without complaining. Charge much more and they leave it on the shelf.
  • Spend your profit in the Build & hire panel: new shelves, fridges, freezers, produce stands, a second checkout, a cashier and a stocker.

Run your own supermarket

Supermarket Simulator is a free 3D game where you run a grocery store from opening time until the lights go off. You start with a corner shop: three shelf units of cereal, soda and chips, a single checkout and a couple of boxes waiting in the storeroom. Shoppers wander in with a shopping list, fill their red baskets from your shelves and queue up to pay. Everything else is up to you.

You play the shop worker in the green apron. Click a box on the storeroom pallets and you pick it up; click a shelf and you walk over and stack the products one by one until the shelf is full or the box is empty. You can watch the stock go down as shoppers take things, and it is your job to keep every shelf, fridge and freezer filled.

The right product in the right place

Every product belongs somewhere. Cereal, pasta, soup, cookies, chips, soda, rice and toilet paper go on shelf units. Milk, cheese, yogurt and juice need a fridge. Ice cream, frozen pizza and peas go in a freezer, and apples, bananas, carrots and bread sit on a wooden produce stand. Each fixture shows one product, and when a customer comes looking for something you have run out of, they grumble and your rating slips.

New boxes are ordered from the Order stock panel under the game. Each order shows what a box costs, how many are on the shop floor and how many are still in the back. A delivery van pulls up behind the store and the box appears on a pallet a few seconds later, ready to carry out.

Scan, pay and count the change

The checkout is where the money comes in. When a shopper reaches the till, their items appear on the belt and on your screen. Press Scan for each one and watch the total add up. Some customers tap a card and you just accept the payment. Others pay with a note, and the screen shows how much change is due, say $6.53 from a $10 note. You make that amount from the notes and coins in the till, $5, $1, two quarters and three pennies, then hand it over.

It is real money counting, and it gets quicker with practice. Get the change wrong and the customer tells you so, and a slow queue makes everyone waiting a little grumpier. Leave people waiting too long and they put their shopping back and walk out.

Set your prices

Every product has a market price, the price most shops charge. You can raise or lower yours ten cents at a time in the Prices panel. Charge a little under the market price and shoppers are delighted and your rating climbs. Charge up to about a fifth more and most people still buy. Push it too far and they leave the item on the shelf. Working out the sweet spot between profit and happy customers is the business side of the game.

Grow the store

In Career mode each day runs from 8am to 8pm, with busier lunch and after-work rushes. At closing time you see your sales, what the goods cost you, your profit and anything you ran out of. Spend the profit on a new shelf unit, your first fridge, a freezer, a produce stand, a second checkout, music and lights, and eventually a cashier to run checkout 2 and a stocker who carries boxes to the shelves for you. Nine career goals earn stars, and stars unlock new store looks like Sunny Foods and Berry Market.

Rush Hour gives you a well-stocked store with two checkouts and four busy minutes: how much can you take? Free Play has every fixture built and no clock, so you can simply enjoy running a big, busy supermarket.

What kids learn

Supermarket Simulator practises real-life maths: adding up prices, making change with coins and notes, and seeing how cost price, selling price and profit fit together. It also rewards planning ahead, sorting products into the right places and keeping customers happy. There are no ads inside the game, no chat and no sign-up.

Supermarket Simulator is free, needs no download or account, and keeps your career save only in your own browser. See the Parents & Safety page for details. For more shop and business games, try Gas Station Simulator, Pet Shop Tycoon, Coin Market or the rest of our Simulation Games.

Frequently asked questions

Is Supermarket Simulator free?

Yes. It is free to play in the browser with no download, no account and no in-game purchases. Your career is saved only in your own browser.

How do I stock the shelves?

Click a box in the storeroom to pick it up, then click a fixture of the right kind: a shelf unit for dry goods, a fridge for dairy and juice, a freezer for frozen food or a produce stand for fruit, vegetables and bread. Your worker walks over and stocks it.

How do I give change?

When a customer pays with a note, the checkout screen shows the change due. Tap the notes and coins to build exactly that amount, then press Give change. Clear starts again if you make a mistake.

Why are customers not buying anything?

Either the shelf is empty, or the price is too high. Check the Prices panel: a sad face means shoppers think it is too expensive. Keep prices within about 20% of the market price.

Can I play on a phone or tablet?

Yes. Tap boxes, fixtures and the checkout, and use the buttons on the checkout panel. On a computer you can also press S to scan, Enter to accept a payment and 1 or 2 to go to a checkout.

What age is it for?

It is designed for players aged about 7 and up. Younger players enjoy stocking shelves and scanning, while older players can work on fast, exact change and smart pricing.
